Protege 5 Incentives

Looks like Mazda added a $1000 dealer cash incentive...a behind the scenes rebate.

$2500 cash customer rebate
$500 college rebate
$1000 dealer cash.

So in essence you can get a new one loaded for about 14,800.

That pretty much dries up the used Protege market even more. Makes much more sense to buy a new one.

It's a mazda.....that was all the incentive I needed! Just a nice bonus to be able to buy a fully loaded (minus the rearview mirror thing) for less than a base model Focus. Plus there are only about 4 P5's on the road here. It's unique, it's loaded, it's cheap, and it's pretty quick. What other incentive do you need?!?!

Makes me cry on how much the P5 is selling for now... Excuse me while I go cry...

Find the car? HA we have a ton of them around here :( just means the used price going to keep going down. Course thats one reason I bought a new one instead of the used one. Dealer incentives plus employeer discount :D

may as well keep this car for as long as the warranty .. at least then it wont seem like such a huge hit on depreciation

Ya, course my car has gone down alot just based from the mileage. Getting close to 37k in little over 1 year, way way above the normal.

I think that is what I got.
Or else it was s plan pricing for Ford emplyees which worked out to $1000.

The dealer bonus went from $500 to $1000 in Michigan at the beginning of November. Edmunds listed it as $500 until a few days ago, though. Their info was bad.

This bonus differs by region. The east coast is still at $500 according to Edmunds (though they might be wrong again).

The dealer keeps this money unless they feel they have to give you a lower price to make the sale. It's on top of S-Plan, etc. The dealers I was working with were deducting $4000 from S-Plan for me (got student as well). I got another $250 for going through Mazda Credit.

One interesting note: GM and Ford do not allow the use of the college grad rebate with Plan prices. Unless the dealers I was working with messed up, Mazda seems unique in allowing this combo.

My understanding is that even the Plan prices are open to negotiation, but not in terms of price. The dealer has money there they can choose to pass along in free extras (accessories, warranty) or a higher trade-in value. I didn't consciously pursue this route, but likely got a higher trade-in than I deserved to by as much as $800.

Overall I got $5,650 off the list price of the car and perhaps $800 extra for my trade. Neglecting the trade my price was only so-so these days, as I've seen many posts at Edmunds suggesting that at least some dealers are discounting P5s by $5,000 for regular customers, and I assume that the college grad and Mazda Credit rebates aren't included (though I guess they might be).

When I got my car in July I paid invoice minus the $2500 cashback... and I was only able to find a car like mine on one dealership for around 250 miles... I wanted Silver with manual tranny, leather, sunroof and 6-disc changer, abs and side airbags...

A friend of mine a week later got his car for $900 under invoice and also got $2500 cashback with $500 recent grad cash... but he couldn't find a car with abs and side airbags with manual tranny in silver so he had to settle for the one without abs and side bags...

My point is, there are definitely P5s out there but only if you aren't particular on what you want...

I had more luck in my area. I wanted manual, ABS/bags, sunroof/changer, and leather--and nothing else, especially not the alarm or chrome wheels. I also definitely did not want black or silver (though I might have accepted silver if there were no alternative).

As grishulia notes, choices were limited. I could actually find plenty of loaded black and silver cars. Other colors were far more difficult.

Leather really limits your choices--there aren't many leather cars out there. If you don't want leather you still have plenty to choose from.

But I found one red car with just the above plus chrome rims and a yellow car (a less desirable color for me) with the above plus the roof rack as well. I was ambivalent on the rack, though I'm now glad I didn't get it. Both cars were from halfway through the model year when prices were $100 lower, a small additional bonus. I tried to find an early model year car when prices were $360 lower, but none had the equipment I wanted near me. And it's just as well I got the subwoofer instead of the rack anyway.

The dealer agreed to remove the wheels and credit me back the difference, about $400. Through some miscommunication I ended up paying $35 for half an hour of labor, which I offered initially but not in my final offer, but that's no biggee.

I ended up with the red car, which had four miles on it when the dealer picked it up. Last time I checked the yellow car has not been sold.

My top choices would have been either of the blues, but none were available with leather anywhere near me, much less the other stuff.

I tried to get some friends of mine in the MD/VA area to also by P5s. I did some searches--there are about a dozen cars with the above equipment located near DC in every color with the possible exception of white. I don't think I ever saw a white car with leather in all my searches of the Detroit, DC, and Louisville areas.

I enjoy searching. If anyone needs help with this, just let me know and I'll lend a hand.

I got all those Incentives plus a $500 coupon from Mazdaspeed testdrive event.

all this means nothing to me unless you post your price b4 tax or otd
you can get a ton of incentives but dont negotiate anything and still buy it overpriced
i got mine blue,stick,6cd,moonroof in aug for 13.9 b4 tax

Our sliver PR5 has auto transmission, leather seats, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), moonroof with wind deflector, rear bumper guard, auto-dim mirror with compass & outside temp and In-desh 6-CD with cassette player. We paid total (included MD tax) 16k :D

The dealer bonus is still $500 in Texas, in Edmunds you have to put in your zip code to determine your area's incentives.

I did an exhuastive search for a P5 with auto and ABS side airbags and there was only one within a days drive from my location. There are tons of non-ABS around, but I refuse to buy a new car without as many safety items as I can purchase.

I ended up getting the Blue Laser automatic I found, it's loaded: leather, ABS, 6 CD changer, side airbags, moon-roof, polished alloys, and the price came down to $15,000 + TTL.

I have to wait to Monday to pick it up, TOO LONG!!!

Dupa, I'll raise you leather, ABS, and side airbags, and paid 13348 before tax. Add 6% for tax for total OTD (no fees, etc.)

Also got about $800 more for my trade than wholesale value, but still less than I would have gotten in some ideal world where people thought as much of the 1996 Ford Contour SE as I did.

Would have liked tzh's test drive bonus, but did not attend (not in my city) and could not find one to buy (they were transferable).

Tzh, did you get the $250 for Mazda Credit? I've never seen in mentioned anywhere but at the one dealer I bought from.

Rabbit, sounds like a very good price. Either of the two blues would have been my top choice, but neither was available with stick and leather within 250 miles or so of me (i.e. Chicago, Detroit, Ohio).

Shame about the automatic, LOL.
