Protege 5 fuel tank leak need help asap

Ok well my car constantly smelled like gas so i checked it out the fuel pump was leaking from the top gas. The fuel pump was replaced with a brand new fuel pump and it still leaking gas out the top of it. I need to get this fixed asap. Any wonders of what the problem is and solutions thanks ALOT.

Might be the tank, is it leaking around the pump?

Was the gasket replaced? Were ALL off the screws re-installed? They are soft and like to break off. Were the lines put on properly? Are the lines leaking or is the the pump sealing surface?

Alot of people have the fuel sending unit housing itself crack on the top and leak fuel. The metal cap plate rusts and pushes down on the plastic and makes a crack.

Just dealt with this a few months ago.

You said it had a new pump, but did you have a new pump housing? Its the white plastic thing that sits in the tank, and it holds the pump (which looks sorta like a can of soda, but smaller). I would say follow the advice above, and you need to replace the gasket, tank housing, and the metal piece. There is a pretty good thread on this that also has part numbers to some allen head stainless steel screws that you can get from McMaster-Carr to replace the ones that hold all of this in. I definitely needed them.

Like others have said...the fuel pump housing, gasket and metal ring all need to be in perfect condition in order to seal. Here's a link to some info:
