Protege 5 Fuel Pump issue...

My neighbor has a Protege 5. He is trying to check his fuel filter for dirt...
How does one get the clips that hold the fuel lines onto the Sending unit off?
They are black with green clips of some sort...
Is there a special tool to remove this?

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I have the same issue, I have an '02 Protege 5, and I need to replace the fuel filter, so as Tarmac Terrorist said. Where could I acquire one of these special tools?
