Protege/323 GT and GTR questions

Any info is appreciated, where do you find these vehicles? Did they make the GTR in the USA? Any resource that is good for finding these cars specifically. What is the general price range? How many were sold in the USA? What years? What features distinguish them, besides a BP or turbo?

the GTR was never sold in the US. the GTX was but it was a 1.6l B6t (128hp) and very weak drive train (not that, that cant be fixed). while the J-spec GTX was a 1.8l BPT (177hp) and a beefier drive train.. and the GTR was a version of the GTX and upgraded for group A races and raised the power of the BPT to 207hp with the help of an oversized turbo and larger IC.. u can go to www.corksport.com for used JDM motors, or u can go to sites like www.flashoptions.com for entire froont clips of the jdm cars. or there is also www.ebay.com which many hard to find parts can be found. if u r looking to do this to any 1g i would get a USDM GTX (although most r only in automatic) or a nice 88-92 323 hatch and then make the swap of motor and trans etc...

ive started the same project turning my 93 sedan into a GTX Familia.. it gets VERY expensive

Were there any BPT's made in the USA? I found a 626 Gt with a 2.2L turbo but its kinda pricey when u think about it, $5k...looked like good condition. This isnt something i will do in the near future but i am thinking my next car will be a 1st gen protege and i am looking at my options. And the jdm 323 gtr front clip is sick!!! Where is Gen1Gt when i need him?

the BPT was never made in the US.. we had the B6T. and the motor in that 626 GT is totally different. if your looking for a nice 1st gen they come dirt cheap, mine was only 500 bucks and it ran 800+ miles all the way home. and as far as the BPT they come fairly cheap aswell and mount right up to the cars stock set up. i found a sweet car on ebay u might want to look at its an 88 gtx (4wd b6t).. very nice car. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485308088&category=7251 and the B6t is still a very nice motor and very fast if tuned right and u get upgraded JDM gtx drive train.

what the GTX's or 626 gt's???

I should let you know that GTs were only made in Canada. If you want to be different, you could have one imported to the States. They are essentially a non-turbo, non-awd GTX. The only option was AC, and they are limited. 1500 in 90, 1500 in 91 and 500 in 93. They have racing seats, rear centre armrest, power everything, BP, 4 wheel disc. The also have the 94 style front end, even though they're a 93(essentially, you could say the 94s have the GT/GTX front end).

I've been trying to get someone in America to buy a GT for a while, since literally no-one in American has one. They can be had for anywhere between $1000-$4000 depending on condition. Mine was $4000 and only had 143,000km on it when I got it.

To import the car, you'd have to install the "passive restraint" motorized seatbelts. (bike)

There were no cars sold in the U.S. or Canada with the 1.8L BPT.

It will be awhile yet. Unfortunately when i get my next car i think i am going to go with an 80's VW GTI or Golf/jetta. I found a great site that carries tons of engine, tranny, and susp parts. I can also get GTI engines for $900 with 11.1:1 comp and forged internals if i do a conversion. Sorry all but this might be my route... although nothing is truely decided so feel free to keep an eye out.
