Alright guys, I have a 2003 p5 that I would like to build and get some power out of, I was thinking of starting off with maybe a Kl-ze swap, or buying the forged 2.0 on protegegarage.com. Anyone have any opinions? I have over 100k miles on the stock motor so a new motor or engine rebuild is necessary. (ricer)
 
The KLZE is a very good swap!
I was doing and I do not regret!
There is also the FSZE but that is a high compression 170hp 2.0l stock!

So you swapped the klze in your p5? Thats what I really am leaning towards, just have to do more research on it.
 
well.. I was in that same boat... and here are some prices that i found online to give you an idea

KLDE ( ebay jdm price ) 600-900 + shipping
KLZE ( ebay and other site pricing ) 600-900 + shipping
tranny, there are SEVERAL options... using an mx3 ( maybe mx6 ) bellhousing and the p5 tranny will work well. the gears and everything else bolt up. but you have to source parts... i found one for about 300 + shipping... that was the cheapest

Wiring harness, cheapest i found when I was going to do mine was 335 ( for the kl harness
megasquirt 585 shiped, ( stand alone ems if you want to just go that route i did )
clutch and fly wheel... spec- 700ish, ACT- 665, south bend i would NOT get.. they are crap IMO... centerforce... 900
mounts fit up... it is a straight bolt in
radiator 150.. exhaust has to be modified,
msp axles were 289 ( i needed new axles for the p5 anyways.. they are beffer then p5 stock)
KL ecu..... wasnt able to find one....
battery relocation 100
oil cooler 100
AC, condensor lines ect 400


after I saw the price go up and up and up.... i decided to do this
wiseco pistons and k1 rods 800 bucks
NEW crank 159
complete gasket kit including head studs 149
cometic head gasket 99
oil and mis fluids 100
ACL bearings all the way around 90
arp studs for everything 135
Custom cam regrinds ( 272 lift) 300
valve train upgrage to support cams 190
megasquirt v2 smb 3.57 FREE ( christmas present )

for just around 2 grand I was able to build my motor... im leaning towards making around 350ish witha gt2871R

the kl swap just seemed to involved at the moment for me... but my next protege that i end up buying... is getting a kl swap when I get the time and money situation right.. hope this helps a little
