thats the name of the game -
trust me on this one - I work for the police, and I asked the seargent one night about the laws. If a car had it originally from the favtory they cannot ticket you. But if you add a system it is illegal. Therefore - if you can justify that you just transfered an existing system that WAS DOT legal into your car you mya just be able to continue running them.

Like I posted in another thread somewhere, I made a custom set of HID projectors for my Sentra. It ended up costing somewhere around 7-800 for the finished product. I originally bought a set of 2002 civic projector lights, but they were crappy so I just cut them up and used them as a mold. I tried using the Civic projection units with D2S Hid bulbs but the pattern was horrible. I later replaced the projection units with some Audi TT for the correct beam patter and it was awesome. I loved them and everyone liked them. I ended up taking them apart to seal them up really good and never got around to it b.c I sold the car.

Ended up turning out like this.

The hardest part is making a way for the beam to be adjustable once you transplant the projector into the new housing. It took me a good month to come up with a way to make them adjust correctly.

wanted to clearifly why aftermarket kits are illegal. it's because factory kits are aimed to a safe level that doesn't seriously distract other drivers. there is no way to guarantee that with the aftermarket kit your light levels are going to be the same safe level that it was at before. it's basically not regulated. i'm sure if you could get a dot approved installation on your car then you would be fine.
