progressive insurance can kiss my a$$

Insurance rates DID go up after 9/11 for a lot of businesses. A lot of other businesses lost their coverage and it's harder to get some coverage now. Same thing happens in the South after hurricanes, or in the Midwest after floods.
It was a nice exuse for insurance companies to clean up the house...

...I'm not sure what insurance companies own, but I guess they could own something.
If I have time later I'll find the proof that insurance companies are behind those names...

Insurance comapies are the most profitable industry in the world. Also they are the only company allowed to descrimnate against people based on race, age, sex and location. Not to mentin they are the largest lender of money to the federal governement and pay a huge mount in compane contributions to keep ther ability to discriminate. The insurance companies will always rasie rates becuase they can and no one is there to keep them in check on anything!

I'm not saying insurance companies don't make money. I'm just saying that the more they pay out, the more they are going to raise their rates. That's just a simple fact. It sucks, but it's true.

There are some controls. My MA auto insurance has actually gone down a couple time over the last few years because the state controls the premiums. Most states that have mandatory auto insurance laws have controls on the premiums.

I'd be interested in seeing that. I don't doubt you. I think they are publicly held companies, and I wouldn't doubt that insurance companies own a lot of the stock.

THose controls are still usualy far higher then they need to be plus the company just jacks the rates up on peoplewith no contorls or in other sectors all together.

If they were taking in more then they were paying out thats one thing. However, allowing them to maintaining an astonomical profit marginis is hardly a reason to not get what you deserve from an accident.

Well "getting what you deserve" will have no effect on the profit margin, because they will just raise the rates. That's the whole point. When people collect huge settelements from the insurance companies, it has very little effect on the bottom line of the insurance company. It DOES have an effect on the rates you and I pay. If everyone got $250,000 for every minor accident, we would be paying like $10k per year for insurance.

It sucks what happened to MinnowGT, and I hope the insurance company pays him what he thinks is right. It's up to him to decide.

Agreed. I think a settlement for: medical bills +$5K+ future medical expenses as result of this is fair.

Funny... we are talking about insurance here and I called my insurance agent on renewing my insurance... turns out they don't want to renew it... LOL

And their reason... about two years ago HID's on my Acura TL were jacked and they had to pay about $4000 to fix the car...

It's not progressive... it's metropolitan... LOL

MinnowGT do yourself a favor and screw them before they get a change to screw you...

DO NOT settle for a low amount. Also, don't ask for some BOGUS high amount. That's just stupid and greedy. We don't need that crap in this world.
No need to bring a lawyer into it. I got hit while on my motorcycle by a guy that ran an red light. They paid what I wanted for the bike (recovery value to get a new one), and quadruple medical (triple + paid the bill). That's about all you should expect and need. They will ow ball you for a long time, but the truth is, they eventually have to close the case or they look bad. Just hold out for 4x. Keep insisting you get that amount. Eventually you will get a manager to contact you and they will give you what you want. It took me 10 weeks, but I got every penny I wanted.

No lawyers needed. Why should you line their pockets? There are too damned many lawyers in this world the way it is, and too many bogus cases clogging up the courts. Don't waste the taxpayers money on this.

Insurance Adjusters are just like car salesmen. It's like the next level from a cheat to a cheater. Whatever to get a buck no matter who is involved. They are quick to collect, but trying to get s*** out of them is another thing! Looks like you need a lawyer and the onset of lawyer bulls*** begins!!

Dealing with adjusters is like dealing with salesmen and is total bulls***. You could have problems recurring years from now that stem from that injury.

I went the lawyer route in an accident a few years ago... I regretted it. I had to go to a chiropractor for like 6 months before my lawyer could even offer up some kind of settlement. It seems they need PROOF that there is some kind of medical condition, and apparently in Florida where this happened, if you see a chiropractor for 6 months then that qualifies as a permanent condition. They wont let you get money for "inconvienence" or extra expenses like you missing that dinner because Florida is a no-fault state, an accident is just that... an accident... s*** happens. So in the end, I got like $2500 after the lawyers took their cut and all my medical bills were paid (including the 6 months of chiroprator treatments)... that was like 8 months after the accident. I should have just asked for more $$ up front... would have been much simpler and less of a hassle.... but the lawyer insisted that was the best way to do it. But I did get my back cracked 3 times a week for 6 months... thats gotta be worth something?? yeah right... lol

A chiropractor??? They don't even go to school to become an MD or anything. Working in physical therapy, we see very little help when it comes to seeing a chiropractor. They provide temporary relief, but can **** s*** up even worse!! Not to sound like I am disrespecting your choice of remedy, but I stay way clear of those guys. I have never been too fond of them from seeing both patients and meeting people whether friend or acquaintence who have seen chiropractors only to have their condition get worse. I am surprised they are still in business and insurance looks at them. Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

just got off the phone with him. I think I need to take a shower
now cause I feel all slimy. Man this guys is a pure weasel. He
said because I was a pedestrian and from talking to the driver
and witnesses it was a metal to body contact he offered me 1k.
Normally he said he would only of offered 2-300 for whiplash
type injuries to passengers in a car. Gee don't I feel special now.
At the end he said he could go upto 1300 + 500 for future doctor
and chiropractor fees.

He also said if I do my normal activities and restrain my kneck they
wouldn't be held responsible since I didn't give my kneck enough
time to heal.

Dude, tell the guy you need $10k or it's lawyer time. And if you need to lawyer-up, then go for the real money - like $100k or more.

Offering you $1k - $1500 is a JOKE. These guys wipe their asses with checks bigger than that.

And BTW - ALL insurance companies LOSE money on premiums. ALL of them.

Wanna see your rates skyrocket? Wait until the next time the stock market takes a tumble.

They blame it on everything from fraud to increased vehicle costs - but the truth is, your rates will follow the market. If the market did well for 6 months, your rates stay the same (cuz we know they ain't going DOWN). If the market tanks, your rates shoot up.

That's where your money goes. And that's where they earn. Insurance compaines that pay out $100 for every $75 they take in in premiums consider themselves to be doing very well.

Your premiums fund their investments. And that is the ONLY place they make a profit.

i say you start going to a licensed PT and get rehab. PT's help a lot more, i think. when i got rear ended last december, i went to the hospital and they got me to a PT who was also a massage therapist and she rubbed me up nice and good. loosened my neck up enough to allow me to drive for 7 hours back to california for christmas. keep a record of about three visit's worth (presuming you have health insurance) and give it to progressive. tell them you'll be going for the next year because it hurts so much. if they don't pay it, they'll hear from your lawyer.

funny thing about progressive. when i got rear ended, they treated me great! they got an adjustor to come out to my house to take a look at the car, then he went with the tow guy to the repair shop and finished the estimate and called me with it. an agent came to my house and talked options with me. all this even though the driver who hit me had no insurance. it was pretty sweet. then they made me sign a paper saying that i turned down medical coverage and i have two years to re-pursue it if necessary. pretty sweet deal for me. sorry your experience is so sucky.
