Progress Sway + P5 Stock Endlinks?

Also wouldnt a rear strut tower brace\bar have taken off some of the stress?
Nope. The strut brace reduces chassis flex, so technically with it installed the swaybar puts less stress on the chassis and more on its mounting points. Therefore the strut bar will result in more stress on the endlink mounting tabs. Although the difference is pretty nominal.

Who's upset?

Although our P5 was never meant to be a performance car it does handles quite well but it does not do well with limited mods. Limited meaning modding only part of a systems such as the rear sway bar without strengthening the components that ties to it.

The only thing I'm unhappy with is the decision to purchasing this car for work. I needed a small wagon and there was this $2K rebate. Not too good of a deal in retrospect.

For those not familiar with the factory auto manufacturers and aftermarket manufacturers, the two do work closely together to support both ends of the business. A perfect example is the Scio XA and XB. Aftermarket performance parts were available before the cars were available and you can even purchase them as a option from the dealer. Many cars are designed and engineered for the addition of aftermart products. Find a way to get to SEMA and everything will be clearer.

Laugh at my Turbo Eclipse if you will but it along with the CIVICs and Mustangs are one of the most modded vehicles. At least my model was. Many have double the HP on this stock 4banger without any serious internal modification. Try that on the P5 4banger.

Sway bar - speed? The certainly do go together.

Do a proper complete upgrade when it comes to the P5 is what I'm finding out.

It comes down to purpose and the vehicle your modding being able to achieve that purpose. Some people put turbos on the p5 and blow their engines than have to go back and use stronger parts like with a whole new forged engine. I can understand the people who first bought the vehicle and them trying to modify it not knowing it's potential but by now I am pretty sure every part has been tested to it's breaking limits and we know what has to be done. I got the p5 because of its style, control, and braking although I was not impressed with it's gas pedal characteristics. I figured I could change that. I got on these boards and started to modify my car, growing to love it. It's still not fast but in my research and learning I have found that I will be keeping this car for along time and will be getting a 2nd car. My 2nd car, because I don't have it, is not for sure yet but I am looking at the 5.0 Mustangs pretty closely. That car will satisfy my need for speed but would never replace the p5 in terms of daily driver. That car will take better to mods with alot more potential than the p5, but if I was to take a girl out on a date I would rather it be in the p5 which has A/C and an audio system than the mustang which you will be sitting in hard ass racing seats. With enough money you can make one car a very nice daily driver and speed demon but that is talking like multiple 10's of thousands of dollars. 2 cars is the way to go, like your eclipse and p5. Just don't expect your p5 to take a shot of NOS, cuz it can't, or a thick sway bar with those bad stock shocks.

I've been modding cars before you were born and this is the first crap that does not do well with mods. Would you like to race your modded P5 against my modded turbo Eclipse? Strip or track?

I dunno, you pick. Either way, my car will whip your ass...

Maybe I didn't hit enough curbs or jump over s*** high enough in mine to break the stock endlink or the strut tab on the stock strut with the progress sway bar. Yes, it did get tested on many many occasions. How much farther can you test it past the tires starting to break loose into a slide? Had 3 wheel motion going up into angled driveways. Oh well, got illuminas now so between the struts & the sway bar the stock endlink should last like no time right? Wrong, been on there a year now without problem-same driving habits.

I got eibach pro kit & Tokico blues going in, read on a dead thread that Progress hit the controller arm if the car was lowered, some guy said he had to put in AWR miata endlinks. But a certain member has said that AWR is garbage, guess I will have to find out if it hits when I install. Anyone else have bad exp with AWR endlinks?

Crashed,

I'm with you on part of what you say. I too find it frustrating that in order to properly add a sway bar you should be replacing the shocks too. This turns a $2-300 job into a $800+ job quickly..not impressed.Add in the clunk fix and it gets even worse..double not impressed.

Mazda, with their ZZ ad compaign should have done better. Anyway....

i12,

I have Illuminas on the way(RB springs too). I'm looking for any opinions on how you feel they work with the Progress bar. Too much oversteer? What settings can/did you use on your Shocks to help with balance? Basically any findings you have are of interest to me. Thanks.

Oops, forgot to ask what springs and possible front bar you are using too.

So I will be getting the progress rear sway bar soon. You guys said that they go well with the stock endlinks, but does it go well with aftermarket endlinks(awr)?? And if I get the awr endlinks will that help with stock strut mounting tabs not braking since I will be using my stock struts for a little while longer??

the endlink has nothing to do with it

I broke mine

I was told that there would not be a problem with the progress bar and stock endlinks. Unfortunately my car is now with one broken end link. I am now going to have to get the awr endlinks. If I had to do it over, I would get the awr sway bar with endlinks included. I think it would have been cheaper. Other than that I absolutely love the addition of the progress bar.

That sux. Got any pics of the broken area? Yeah makes sense that a lot more pressure is being added to those skinny stock endlinks with the beefier sway.

Ever heard of a Mazdaspeed 3? Lets see what a stock Eclipse will do against it. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Ignorance and arrogance are a terrible combination.

Pretty funny that you would describe yourself to everyone on this forum. You must be a very unhappy person to bring up a year old thread just to try to offend someone who was just trying to compare the reliablity and capability of two vehicles that he has.

If you read my post without bias you would not have made your little stupid comment. I assume you do not own a Mazdaspeed 3 just maybe lucky enough to have driven one.

I am well aware of the capability of the Mazdaspeed 3 in stock form and how much you can do to increase it's performance. Let see you try to pump out 400+ hp from the Mazdaspeed 3 engine & run it with the stock tranny.

You're trying to compare the stock performance technology of two vehicle over a decade in age. That's like comparing a 1997 year old Corvette to a a 2008 Corvette. Guess who'll out accelerate and out corner.

Go back to reading you comic books & let this thread die.

Yes, my P5 is dead on jack stand. One of these days I'll fix it and sell it. I've replaced it with a Toyota Sienna. With the rear seats removed I'll blow the doors off your stock P5 with my soccer mom van.(cryhard)

Did you get that Sienna from your Grandma?
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!
