2006 mazda5 gt
hello all, i'm new in here but i read some of the forums here when i have question with my mazda5. me and my wife bought a pre-owned 2006 mazda5 gt and the dealer gave me just 1 keyfob for it. i went to the mazda dealer to purchase one but it cost 250 bucks just for the key and key and 50+ bucks for the programming. the price here doesn't includr keycutting. one of the technician advised me to just get one from ebay and go back to them for programming. so i did purchase one from ebay, have it cut by the locksmith. i read the procedure to program here in the forum. followed it and then it worked. my only problem now is that the new key can open the door but can not start the car. help me out here guys. i don't wanna spend that much money for them to reprogram my key again.

The car has to be programmed to allow that key to start it, same as programming it to respond to a new remote.

I bought 2 remotes off Ebay (brand new) with uncut blanks for $85 shipped or so, got them cut at a local locksmith for $9, then had the dealer program the car for one for free while it was in for some warranty work, then did the programming for third myself. You can only program a third if you have 2 working ones already, but it's great insurance to have a third in case you ever lose one so you don't have to go through this again.

Programming the car doesn't take long, you can probably talk them into doing it cheaply.

Dude... you were getting ripped off big time. Wolfe Langley Mazda charged me $263 incl tax to get a second key cut and programmed (actually less, 10% discount because I'm a member of another local forum). I'll do a third one myself like SuperJETT says because even $263 is a lot of cash.

Anyway you have the key and have it cut, just pay $50 to get them to program it.

You need 2 working keys with transponders in order to program new keys. Since you only have 1 working key you will have to get it programed by the dealer. Once you have a 2nd working key you can program new keys yourself

thank you all for your reply and your input. i guess i have to pay 50 bucks for the programming of my second key even if the transponder is working well coz i programmed it already. oh well, i'll just make it with myself with the third key... again, thank you all...

When you say programmed, you must mean that the remote (fob) works for the doors; this has nothing to do with programming it to work with the ignition. As stated, #2 key must be done by the dealer.
