[Prodigy's Race Protege Project]

I've taken on the project of rebuilding biknman's old hill climbing 1999 Protege.

Basically most of my current mods will go to the race car chassis (2.0L engine + 5 speed transmission included).
My daily driver will be reverted back to "stock" with the help of a 1.6L auto parts car.

LONG STORY SHORT (see pic)

All cars are currently in my possession. (rockon)

:p

Any close ups of the cage? I saw a SSC MP3 that had a speed world challenge cage (from when the protege was in SWC) in it, and I was wondering if this was the same.

You figure out what class this SOB is gonna be in?

Sweet! I can't wait to see this thing together. Are you building this for the Challenge or just a straight up racer?

it's a slightly modified autopower weld-in cage.
Still trying to figure out a class then I'll build within the rules.

Straight up racer. The turbo kit alone would kick it out of the challenge. ;)

Looks like you need seats... and I have some that will be for sale soon. Hmmmmmmmmm :p

Ahh. Gotcha.

Coupla questions...

Is the rear right in tact? It looks like it's shorter than the driver's side in this pic: http://i29.tinypic.com/9u3pty.jpg

What's in the rear left of the trunk area? It looks like some sort of fuel cell, but I see the OE fuel tank is still present (through the hole in the floor).

Yep, it's good.

Remotely mounted turbo. The fuel cell was located in the trunk.

I'll chop and weld that section to the way it was originally with the parts car chassis.

this is the kind of project i want to undertake some day! subbing for future reference...good luck with the build!

I got the dash out of the parts car in 2 hours tonight.
And I found out that the car has a cheap Direct electronics alarm wired up.
I swapped batteries just to test it and wa-la free remote start, turbo timer, and alarm!

I thought the car only had keyless entry.

Things to do later on this week:
-remove entire interior and engine wiring harness
-remove a/c components
-pull engine and trans
-remove all suspension components
-chop it up into tiny pieces!
