Problems with iPod

Just as I get my iPod (black 60gig 5th gen) and finally learn to use iTunes and organize like a champ... Mr. Kenwood goes out again! This is the 3rd deck I've had now. I'm hoping to call Kenwood and try to get it resolved directly.

So I'm stuck w/ earphones for the time being. :-/

I think the KCA-IP500 is great! The only downside is if you have a lot of songs you can't select one particular song very easily. However, you can still choose playlists, and shuffle the whole ipod. I enjoy having my own "radio station" in my glovebox!!

I thought I read where there was a way to search for titles using the remote. I haven't looked into it yet as I'm still getting acclimated to the regular functionality of the thing - can anyone confirm such a feature of the KCA-iP500???

why am i the only one that cant get my headunit to read my ipod...i followed all instructions to a "T" and bought all cables necessary (scratch)

nvm..got it to work! w00t i didnt think u could control it from the ipod..but u can...just the way i wanted. good stuff this forum...;)

Most def stay away from the KCA-IP500.
Just get the aux connector everyone here is talking about. I've had one since I returened the KCA-IP500 and i couldn't be happier.

I couldn't disagree more. I have had nothing but very positive results with my Kenwood Interface. I have about 10 playlists and about 150-200 songs in each one. I do wish you could access genres instead of just playlists, but sound quality has been excellent.

You should be able to access genres. Just press the "scan" button (the button you press to play 10 seconds of a song from a CD) and you should be able to go from playlist, to artist, to genre, and I think to album.

Thanks! I'll try it tomorrow on the way to work.

I couldn't care less about genre... I'd rather seach by artist. I assume that's possible, right?

I still gotta get my frickin deck fixed. I hate these Kenwood pieces of crap they put in the MSP. Seriously, I'm about to be on #4 in two years time? I'll probably just break down and buy a dual din screen. I wonder if the video from an iPod will display on it through the Kenwood interface... hmmmmm.

*btw, awesome info guys.

You should be able to access the artist scan by pressing the scan button also.

Kenwood's newest decks are leaps and bounds ahead of the crap they put in the MP3 and MSP.

Perhaps.... but I would have to purchase that. I'm still getting warranty on mine.

But once I need to buy, I'll get something fatty fat.

Back to the question of searching ...

Does anyone know if you can search for a specific song / artist / etc. with the interface? I've gotten proficient at navigating the iPod through the HU, but I have something like 200 artists in the iPod, and if I want to get to the middle of the alphabet, I have to keep hammering on the FM button until it's about to pop off!!!!!! Somewhere I read a post talking about a search using text (maybe using the remote control). Anyone heard of this sorta thing??

i just control it thru the ipod..is faster and easier

That is what every is trying to avoid here in these last few pages... We are dropping $100 on the interface to avoid using the iPod for control.

It's hardly easier if you have to fidget with an iPod while driving if you can use your OE stereo. It would also be more distracting to do that. Distractions while driving = dangerous.

i dont have any advice but i heard apple is letting you trade in your ipod for an ipod photo. my friends say no charge. you have to take it to an apple store. i know two guys that already got their ipod photos.

cripes thats awesome!

BTW, I got my interface hooked up and working. I can now scroll through artists. It also displays artist name, song, and time on the MSP deck.

:)

Does it still take forever (going one by one) to scroll through artists?

yeah thats the problem. i have hundreds of different artists and it is a PITA to go through it on the radio. So what i do is unplug it and go to the artest using the ipod - hit play and plug back in.
