Pro5 Alarm System

Greetings -

I'm looking to get a theft deterrent, or alarm system, for my 2003 Pro5. I prefer to get OEM products when I can, but I'm not sure if Mazda makes one, or if it is any good, or if it costs an arm and a leg. If the Mazda OEM is not an option, are there good 3rd party systems I should look at, and preferably ones that allow me to keep my existing keyless remotes?

Thanks in advance.

I have that system. It's plug and play. Very simple. Might not be the most sophisticated alarm out there but it does it's job, for me anyhow. (2thumbs)

If someone want your car/stuff inside said car, etc., they'll get it. Alarms are simply noise makers.

That said, I went with the Mazda OEM alarm. Simplel install; plug and play and no wiring to cut.

Aftermarket offers you other options, more sensors, etc. (The Mazda only has a shock sensor for the Protege5 - nothing connects to the rear hatch either like with the sedans - rear trunk opening sensing).

Agree - but my insurance co does give me a $30 discount, and the wife feels a little more secure I guess.

So, OEM alarm does not sense rear trunk being opened? Also, does OEM unit have engine immobilizer?

I never actually tried, but yes, it is supposed to have engine immobilizer

The OEM Mazda unit has an engine imobilizer; basically, you can't start the car w/o deactivating the system....well, you *can*. There's a small cut off switch that you put under the dash and you press it if you can't normally deactivate it.

For the money and time spent not having to cut into harnesses, it was worth it for me. I didn't really do it for the insurance, but that's me. I'd rather get better discounts by not getting 20 tickets a month than by trivial security items.

Also, I personally didn't install any LED - well, it's there, but not visible...

The alarm doesn't specifically 'sense' the hatch (sedan's have trunks, Protege5's have hatches) opening/closing, per se. From my understanding, the 'shock' sensor determines this - I'll have to re-read my manual for it though. It'll pick up the doors being opened however. The hatch isn't wired thru. the same way as the trunk (sedans0 are.

Great, thanks for the updates.

Is there any point in shopping around for these things, or is that the best deal I can hope for?

I think I answered my own question - Trussville Mazda has em for $102. Any other suggestions?

I only posted the link to mazdastuff cause I know they have most of the OEM stuff and it's easy to find on their site.
$102 sounds like a great deal!

!!! here's a suggestion, get that price for me too! I wanted to get a new alarm but I really need new tires so I was just going to wait, but if I could get that alarm for a price like that, I'll do it.

For anyone who has installed these, It is a no wires cut solution, right?

I figured it would sense the hatch opening by the interior light coming on, or does the interior light not come on?

Its their standard price as far as I can tell. I already placed my order. I hope its legit, I don't know anything about them, but they seem to be a Mazda dealer. Here is their link Trussville Mazda

Anyone who has installed this want to post some pics and a brief how to? If I install it on my P5, will it activate with my key fob?

Edit: has anyone called Trussville to make sure that this alarm system is as complete as the Mazdastuff one? The price difference is a little high. If so, I'm gonna jump on the deal.

I took the mazdastuff part number and put it on the Trussville search, so it should be the same.. also, it says "alarm system" i think.

The descrtiption on the Trussville web site says:
