Unfortunately you can only prevent some dings and dents. I've found no matter how hard I try these things just seem to happen regardless.
So, when I purchased my 16 GT I was offered Ding Shield Premier service for ~$300. At first I immediately turned down the offer. Then after some thought I decided to purchase this protection which includes: (taken directly from the website) all services are zero deductible.
Unlimited PDR on all dings, dents and creases up to the size of a credit card, 3.25" x 2"
Repairs on all top and sides surface body panels, including steel and aluminum panels
Hail damage up to $500 or the amount of your vehicle's insurance deductible*
Alloy wheel refinishing and repairs
Windshield chip and star repairs performed by certified Safelite AutoGlass technicians
Reimbursement of rental vehicle costs, up to $50, for one day
The big seller for me was the alloy wheel repair as all it takes is one bump on a curb and your wheel is damaged.
I had my 16 for only a couple months and noticed a crease on my drivers side front fender located directly over a body line. Now I too always park in the non door ding section in parking lots. But this still happened.
I filed a claim with Ding Shield and made an appointment for a tech to fix the damage. It literally took him about 10 minutes to fix the damage. Now you cannot even tell it happened.
So I am quite happy I purchased this added protection which is good for the next 5 years.
