My hood was starting to look slightly faded underneath my florescent lights. It is also fairly rock chipped from AZ highways, but before I brought myself to pay $500 to have it properly refinished, I used some polishing compound by hand, then a paint cleaner, polish and wax, and got it looking much much better. I've wet sanded a scratches here and there too with good results with a 2000 grit. It is scary when you see the initial dull result, but it polishes right up again.
I still will repaint it at some point due to the rock chips, but from a couple feet away or in pics it looks perfect now.
nice, side note: I was in Round Rock earlier today...before the hail came..lol
