ISO is set to auto. I just use this baby as it was a point and shoot. Its a nikon D60 btw.

Put the Camera on Apature priority, (depending if you want the backround blurred) but put the ISO to its lowest setting. I ALWAYS have my Nikon ISO set to 100.

i think that generation of nikons had really bad high ISO noise, both the d60 and d70. anything past iso400 is pure noise so you may want to try some shots without it being on auto and see if your noise issue goes away

i had the D40 before i upgraded, 400 and higher on the ISO setting made noise like a mother F%($*#. so try that first, and see what happens
