damn, well either way man you should still have my number so give me a call if your going to be in town.
The longer the shutter speed the more time for the camera to move or lighting to shift or something to happen causing your image to come out blurry. What camera are you using. If it is a decent SLR then you can bump the ISO up to about 200-400 and use a shorter shutter speed while keeping the same light levels and therefore reducing the opportunity for vibrations and blurry pictures.

Mckernan, as Jud said, a longer shutter speed means the camera is taking in more light information. The longer the shutter is open, the even more precise the steadiness has to be to get a clean shot. Also, when it's open longer, it soaks in more light, which can easily overexpose shots. I agree with Jud on the ISO as well. Play around with the settings though so you can understand what they all do. If you want those long exposure shots with light streaks from cars, try shooting in a time exposure mode. It will automatically adjust the aperture based on how long you leave the shutter open. Experiment with that, then try to transfer those settings over to manual, and adjust them accordingly.
