Mckernan, it's always tough at night. It's not your focus, it's the fact that the shutter speed is so much longer, that it's way too tough to stay stable enough. A tripod is your best friend for night shots. And a 10mp picture looks very different on a 2in screen, as opposed to it's full resolution. That's the glory of digital, just keep shooting.
Also, if you don't have manageable light sources for night shots, like strobes and external flashes, setting up your shot using the ambient light is key.
