I wonder if it's safe to use the 3m tape. Will it hold high speeds?
2 ways to think about that question that I can think of off the bat:
1) The 3M tape is designed to hold molding and other small pieces of the vehicle while offering less weight and being less obvious than their mechanical counterparts.
The 1" tape is capable of holding up to1lb/4" used and last 5-7 yrs. The front end lip requires approx 6.5', or 78" which roughly translates into 19.5lbs of holding power horizontally. A garage door seal weighs, what, about 1-2lbs @ most and is soft, and flexible?
By comparison, the side moldings are held on by 2 strips (top & bottom) approx 1/4" wide ea.
2) Should the tape fail @ high speeds what would happen?
a) The piece it's holding would begin to fall and offer warnings in the form of visual and auditory before failing completely.
b) Should the piece fall off, it would likely fall to the ground. It being a soft piece of material (foam/rubber) what harm would be done... except a bit of litter. Even if caught by the wind would it be any worse than any other road debis? Flying rocks, like the ones that have put chips and dents in my hood, come to mind.
