Post The Best Pictures of Your Mazda

I would get a 3 before a protege. Much more reliable motor and I really dont think the older (04-06 models) are that much money.
Unless you're talking about getting a BG protege with the BP motor, then you loose no reliability whatsoever.

I have an 02 Protege5 that runs great with 171k miles and a 2004 3 2.3L that's been nothing but problems since 70k miles

cause its an 04... aka first year of new model lol

my 05 has been a charm for me, sitting at 143k and still running like a peach

Sorry, I should have clarified, yes it is still an 04 model, I just wanted to point out how early it was made. My 02 p5 was built in 01 making it one of the first P5's. My 04 has some unusual parts. Blue seats, not red. No 2.3 badges, it does have side skirts, no spoiler options. Slatted grill, not mesh. it seems like the 04-06 had lots of parts and Mazda just threw stuff together

Also you got the 3 used right? If it wasn't taken care of by the PO... theres something else to take into consideration.

My moms 6 has the 2.3 and it has around 90K on it. I know that's really not all that high, but regardless it has had zero problems.

I don't think it's the motor, I think it's everything else around it. Previous owner traded it in to Mazda and then sold it to us. I believe the dealership screwed it up when I took it there for maintenance. Turns out their shop was causing damage to cars and charging to fix it. They poured oil into my Mother-in-laws spark plug wells when changed spark plugs and then charged her for it. They take advantage of a lot of people. Although I realized that, I've had trouble fixing their damage. I've replaced a lot of parts and it just doesn't seem as forgiving or easy to work on as the protege

All packed up and ready to head out to the big show in Lincoln, NE. SCCA Solo National Championships bound :D
