as far as emissions.. if its 1996 model year or newer, just has to have no visible smoke, and no check engine light/codes... they plug the smog machine right into the ODBII connector.

Older, its a tailpipe sniff test... dunno how strict, tho... but probably wont pass w/out a cat. older than 1970ish is exempt.

For the pets thing, I believe its up to the apartment managements policy... tho w/the postage stamp sized apartments we have here... it would be pretty cruel to lock even 1 dog that size into an apartment. Tho rental houses are pretty competitive w/apartments here.

Thanks alot for the info I didnt know the apartments were so small. I guess I will look into the house thing. i really do want a back yard for them to play in instead of tearing the house apart. Any areas I should stay away from?

I know most of the aprtmemts out here do not allow any pits or rotts, some even just any big dog. I think when it comes to a house, most owners want a security deposit and shot records. your best bet would be to look at houses. I would stick to Henderson or Summerlin, There are nice areas all over, so I would suggest asking us about an area before you do anything. I know there are tons of house up for rent out here in henderson. Just depends on what part of henderson, its kind of like you get what you pay for.. if its really cheap rent, then most likely the neighborhood isnt great. Rent out here is about $900 and up for a decent place. Mosy likely, closer to $1200.. good luck.. hope this helped!

Dude finding a house/apartment with a pitbull in vegas sucks, just being honest. (love your sig). I have a 2 year old red nose and had to go through a private realtor just managing a couple houses.

I work for a prop management company and we don't allow them. Me and my g/f only found 2 apartments in OK areas that allowed Pitbulls. I would try the papers and craiglist.

Not sure you budget, but the house 2 over for me is up for rent, they were my old property management company and they allowed me to have a pitbull. But the rent should be around $1200.

9-1200 is cool thats about what I was paying for my condo out here. I really don't want to get rid of my dogs so thats going to be the biggest thing for me. I have a friend thats going to let me stay with her until I find something so it should not be that bad. I really am thankful for all of the help you guys are giving me. This is a really major move for me so thanks a million when I get there and get settled beers on me or I will do something. Thanks again for your help.

We also might know of a house for rent in the seven hills area. Its the same owner as our house and they MIGHT allow the dogs. Like I said, they would need shot records. I think they are asking $1400, it has 3 bedroom, 2 car garage, back yard, nice neighborhood.. so, yeah, when you come out, I am sure we all will find you something.. you still have a while to go right?

older than 1970ish is exempt.

only if the vehicle has a "classic vehicle" license plate (i think) lol

Basically, all emission standards are the same all over the U.S. EXCEPT for California.. they have uber strict emission standards.. Also, it depends on population of the town/city/zip code that you live in...

(correct me if im wrong of course.. ) :)

Yeah I got a little while but it will be here before you know it. I am trying to get in the june class at II so that will put me at about august or sept. By the way how far is henderson from the strip? cause my friends house is about 5 or 10 mins from their.

Some states don't have regular emissions testing :P

Some states don't have regular emissions testing :P

and some counties differ... currently anyone w/a pahrump address doesn't need emissions testing.

Also, we used to have a '71 chevy that didn't need testing in clark county... but it just drank soooo much gas... and it didnt have the classic rod plate, tho it was a classic.

classic rod plates do require a maximum milage per year.

Dont move here! Plain and simple, this place is getting crazy and more so if your trying to raise a family. They say children in high school are 35% more likely to get killed in Nevada than any other state. If your not trying to raise a family or plan to in the near future than this place will be party heaven for you. The school system out here is ranked 48th in the country and they are still trying to take funds away from the school system. I know every place has crime but you will pay almost double for your insurance whether its home owners, renters, or car insurance. Right now is a good time to buy a house so if you can get qualified for a house than I wouldn't rent. We have a house and are looking at purchasing another just for a investment. Of course my main priority is relocating to a better state with a better school system only because the wife and I would like to start a family. Good luck to you and hope all goes well but look at the pros and cons of living in Vegas. Its beutiful out here but it is getting a little crazy!

but how do you really feel JamJam....haha

on a serious note....alot of what he says is true. I have lived in alot of places....CA, FL. NV, TX & VT (hopefully moving back soon) and NV ranks dead last.

Don't get me wrong, I love Las Vegas but it has changed a ton since I moved here over 6 years ago. I can introduce you to more people that love this place than people that hate it so its not a complete loss. You just have to weigh the pros against the cons and for me the cons out weigh the pro's by a long shot.

Thanks to Vegas I have become a avid gun owner and have one with me at all times.

I was out there about 2 years ago I didn't know it was like that. My whole purpose was to move away from trouble not to it. I wish that I could say that I am a saint but growing up on the westside of atlanta won't allow it. How bad is it really cause I do plan on having kids within the next 4 years. My friend pretty much told me that vegas is the place to be as far as making good money and starting a family.Florida is also on the list cause it's driving distance for family visits. I am also a legal gun owner, but thats not the reason I bought one. Any other comments pros vs. cons.

Don't let me sway you from coming to Vegas. You can make good money in vegas but some of that would be offset by the cost of living. When i lived in Florida my insurance was half the price it is now. Car theft out here is really bad and its not getting any better. The main issue is the school system. We are almost the lowest rated state in the country. Our governor is in the process of lowering the budget for the school system so its going to get worse. We have the worse housing market in the country. They say 1 out of 3 houses in Vegas are in foreclosure. Nice neighborhoods used to be the places to live. Now you may own a 600k house and have a renters occuping every other house next to you. I have nothing against renters but I have issues when they make the neighborhoods look like s*** because they dont care. You have to be careful when you rent a house because investors have bought up a bunch of houses and now they cant afford to keep them. What happens then is you will be eating breakfest in your nice house that your renting and someone will put a notice of eviction on the door. You have been paying rent but the investor you pay your rent to have 50 other houses to worry about and they decided to not pay on the house your renting so he pockets your cash and now you have to find a new place to live. This has happened to 3 people I know.

I could go on and on and I am sure others states are having some of the same issues but I am familiar with the issues in Vegas. Like I said in one of my other posts, you can find just as many people that love this place! I want to raise a family and from what I am seeing this is not the place to do it.

I looked at the cost of living and from what was calculated I will save 6100 dollars alone just moving their. The cost of living here has went way up. So it's little more exspensive to live here. As far as schools go Ga isn't to high on the list either. Just in case you were thinking about Ga. Florida has really good schools. Don't worry you didn't really sway me from moving to vegas but its good to know the bads as well. I just know maybe to look back into apartments for more security on housing.

Get a home just be careful on who you rent from. Try and rent from a personal home owner. If you do get a apartment try to get one that has a garage to park your car. I know you like your car because your on a forum based on cars, so putting it in a garage will lower the risk of it being stollen.

Yeah I love my car but full coverage plus gap = they can have it if they need a car that bad. Just don't let it come back. At the end of the day it's just a material thing here today gone tomm. I'm blessed just to wake up everyday so I would'nt be to mad. Poeple have bigger problems than my car getting stolen. Can you say hello M3.
