Possibly another ZOOM ZOOM BOOM

Good luck...Mazda in Raleigh is kinda weird about that stuff..but they came through when my tranny was meesed up and replace pretty much everything but the case.

Oil change receipts???? What if this happens to me? I change my own oil. Will Mazda actually not warranty an engine because of this?

Pride LOL!

IT is good that you get your oil changed by someone else for several reasons, firstly, you will have records in case something really stupid happens that is beyond anyone's control, atleast you can have someone other than yourself to blame, and secondly, exactly for what just happened. If they open that motor, there is a strong possibility that one of the cylinders is being starved and that is why it is knocking. Without records, you would have no proof that you are in fact changing your oil.

Besides, when you consider the cost of changing oil at a quick lube being as cheap as it is, is it truly worth getting dirty for? LOL!

That is pretty much what they told me. Without the oil change receipts/invoices, they would not even start on it.

damn man, that sucks but your pretty much gettin a new engine. now it's time to invest into a haltek or unchip or something.

Update:
My motor arrived at the dealership about an hour and a half ago. They are saying that it could be ready as early as Friday. Not bad, that's pretty quick. (rockon)

Cool. Just save your oil & filter receipts and keep a log. I'm sure the process is just like any other dealer service process, you just have to stay on there ass and don't give in to their scare tactics. No where in the warranty does it say that you must have receipts or have a shop change your oil. Detailed records will suffice. Especially in a court of law, if thats the direction the dealer wants to go!

Update:
Still do not have my MSP back from dealer. Some genius ordered the wrong gasket set. Gaskets will be there tomorrow, so hopefully by Wed.

Update:

Talked to the service manager today and he finally told me what actually caused the problem. He said that it was a broken wrist pin. I asked what would have caused this and he told me that it was most likely that the pin was defective/flawed from the factory and that they do not think that anything that I did would have caused this. He also said that the reason they were replacing the entire shortblock was that there was damage to the cylinder wall as a result of the broken pin. The gasket set arrived this morning and it is being worked on as I post.

I just got mine back, it cost Mazda $6400 , make sure you break the engine in before you beat on it. They told me 500 miles. we should consider ourselves lucky because mazda is pretty strick with these cars. Did you have any mods prior to the engine dying?

Damn that's alot of $$. I'm gonna break her in easy. I'm not so sure that was done when my car was brand new, because the car had 1300 miles when I bought it. I guess we are pretty lucky, considering everyone else's warranty woes. Do you know what exactly failed on your car? Not sure if I read about it or not. Post a link to your thread if you started one. I had a few mods when it happened, but they don't seem to think that I caused it. Details about my mods will be discussed later, after I get my car back and make sure everything is OK with the new block.

MSP IS BACK ON THE ROAD

Just picked up my MSP about an hour ago. Finally, I no longer have to drive the luxurious Hyundai Elantra, lol. Everthing seems OK so far. Of course, I have not got on it at all yet, because I want to break it in. I did notice some small scratches in my engine bay, but I figure that it is a small price to pay since they covered it under warranty. Total costs for Mazda were $4,657. Probably would have been cheaper, but they replaced one of my AC hoses also, because it was leaking. All in all, this has been a pain in the ass, but it really seems like nothing compared to some of you guys' stories.

Rev's are the killer during break in... not throttle.... medium throttle application at low revs (not above 5000) is how you get the rings to seat in. They need gas pressure from combustion to force them against the walls... so heavier throttle is actually good for the break in... but REV's are very BAD. coating down periodically helps as well as it puts a vaccum on the cylinders and pulls the wasted oil and debris down off the walls and clears it... but 500 miles of non-constant speed (city driving is best actually) and reasonable acceleration is the best way to seat a new set of pistons and rods and rings in.

But congrats on the warranty cover and going about it the right way...

Thanks for the info Turfburn.

I actually took it to Rick Case Mazda in Gwinnett because I know one of the service reps.

Yeah I know. I wish I could have done something like that, but I am just really happy they replaced the shortblock under warranty. They were pretty cool about it for the most part and I didn't want to make things any more complicated for them.

Half way through break in (250 miles) and no problems. It seems that they did a pretty good job on the swap. Knock on wood!
