i was reading a thread about a guy who has a leak in his LSD, and he noticed that his cpe intake had a dent it from the shifter hammer (no clue what its called).. anyway i went and checked mine out and it looks like mine is doing the same thing nice sized dent in the intake tube right before the MAF housing...

u can see theres about less than an inch of room in between, but when your ripping through gears that intake is moving like crazy...

usually i wouldnt care bout something like this but its a large dent right next to the MAF so you be the judge

If you read the last sentence on page seven of the installation instructions, it says, "Be sure to check that the intake pipe will not be in the way of the shifter linkage."

You need to adjust the intake so that it doesn't interfere with anything before you take it out for a spin. Failure to do so will obviously result in a bent intake pipe. Shimmy the intake a little further out from the silicone coupler at the turbo inlet pipe, and adjust the position of the bracket on the vibro-mount. If you do this, you should be able to get it to fit without any interference.

did check it.... doesnt matter how much you bend, adjust, move, anything.. that intake is going to move and hit it... second gear 4200rpm and stomp on it, u can feel the intake slap the linkage.. ive gotten the tube as far away from it as possible.. still hits

I just went outside and snapped a picture of our SPEED3 with the CAI installed to show you that we don't have any interference issues. It takes little tweaking, but you can get it to fit without hitting anything.

You should try loosening the vibro-mount and silicone coupler and move the pipe around until you find a spot that works. Once you do, have a buddy tighten everything down while you're holding onto the pipe. This should help keep it in place.

If you still believe that the product is at fault, call us at the shop and we'll rectify the situation. Ask for the company owner, Anthony Messina and he will be able to help you figure out what's going on. You can reach us at 301-576-6142.

ive gotten it as far away as possible... now the big question is the dent going to affect maf readings?

Sounds like they might give you a new one if the dent is significant. I had the same problem since I happened to have the shifter in 2nd when I installed the CAI and didn't notice how close it was in 1st/3rd/5th until later. I have little dings, but nothing huge. I now have it adjusted to where I can shake the CAI violently and not have it hit the shifter, but it did take some some fiddling after loosening up all the connections. Personally, I think this issue (the effect of the shifter position) could have been emphasized in the instructions to help newbs (like me, anyway) avoid this problem.

The dent shouldn't not affect MAF readings since the disturbance is slight, and the sample is taken in the center of the housing and not towards the outer edges.

But if you don't want to take my word for it (for which I wouldn't blame you!), you can check your fuel trims at idle with an OBD-II compliant scan tool. Your long term fuel trim should read at -7% plus or minus two percent, depending on how much fuel vapor your purge valve is recirculating at the moment.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. (drinks)

I'm going to pass this suggestion on to my boss so we can amend the installation instructions and emphasize that point.
