I saw a car show covering SEMA in Las Vegas on ESPN, They had a company that had an adapter that would allow an ipod to be hooked up to a stock stereo, and the stock deck would display ipod functions. It also would retain use of steering wheel contols, But i do not remember the name of the company, i think the unit costs $200

Well, it's been a while, but I tried the tutorial.

Apparently I either buggered up my pins so much that even the correct tools can't pull the radio out (my dealer tried for free, AFTER THE FACT! ARGH!), or it was messed to begin with. anybody got a 2002 Protege service manual? :( :( :(

I went to their website amd Mazdas are not covered, i think you need a stock deck with cd changer controls

it's been covered pretty well in the sticky guys, and I've called in to a couple of companies about it, prettymuch there is NOT enough intrest in our platform for them to put the time into developing an aux in. IT's also not shared with any other vehicle, really so again, not a very broad range of application, and there's nothing else they could "borrow" from. Kind of a lost cause really...

i know this is bringing back an old thread... but SWEEEEEEET!!! i just got an ipod and was using an fm modulator (GRABAGE/battery hungry POS)... did this mod today.. and BAM!!! it works like a charm... other than the fact that i have to burn/play a blank cd it's allll goood... only took about 1/2 hour.

great how to/pics... thanks alot ibanez.. you just saved me $$$'s that i don't have. =)

i hooked up my ipod to my stereo, wasn't that hard really, basically took the radio totally apart. Right under the cd player unit there is a circuit board with about 15 solder points really close to each other, these are marked and i just soldered to the right channel, left, and ground and that was it. All i have to do is play a blank cd at the same time cause all my wires are doing is taping into the signal from the cd player. I also found some solder points on the circuit board that is right where the tape/md player would hook in, I was going to try soldering to that but it would have been pretty hard, maybe I'll try it eventually

just added som ephotos on imagestation

What do I need?

I just purchased a Mazda 3 that has the mp3 compatible elements. Question is what exactly do I need to hook up my Sandisk e260 to this auxilary. It is located in the console armrest. Thanks for any guidance.
