popped ur hood lately?

its wire loom razor, i have it on mine too.

pirana...GOOD GOD MAN!!! it is soooo purdy!!!!!!

I guess I'll be the first to say my engine bay is dirty as HELL. I tried cleaning it a couple times, but it didn't do much. I really don't care too much, though.

Wait a second. You can CLEAN your engine bay? I suppose you're going to tell me it's possible to wash the rest of your car, too?! I think the mold adds some nice accents to my car.

"anal?" just picky!

Hahaha!! I had to paint a picture of how clean your engine bay is for the rest of the world.:D Anyone who puts his car on jackstands, takes the wheels off, and washes underneath the car before shows....That's a man who wants to win!! (thumb)

03Speed ... he is still trying to sell it. He wants $13,500 for it with everything in it. Definitely worth it imho.

MisterT -- cover up the parts that cant get wet and spray the engine down with a good cleaner. Meguiars Xtra or Simple Green work well. Let it sit for a few mins. I then go back and re-spray then work the "dirty" areas with the terry towel that I had just cleaned the rest of the car with. Then just hose it down with regular hose pressure (no attachments). I then use dry terry towels and/or the Absorber to dry off as much as I can since water spots are a PITA no matter where they are. All the chrome parts I detail with a good chrome polish. The silicone hoses get wiped down with an instant detailer. And finally all the black hoses and plastics I wipe down with No-Touch Tire Foam sprayed onto another terry towel. If you just spray it all over it will leave spots.

talk about a needless hobby...jk

Seriously though, I wouldn't spend all that time doing that. Because it'll just get dirty again in no time. I'm already obsessive enough about the exterior of my car. But, hey; if it's your thing, then do it and enjoy it.

I just rinse it off at the car wash, or use my buddies pressure washer and some simple green. I just cleaned it friday night and waxed the strut bar and the paint under the hood saturday. I like my car clean and shiny. Looks better than it did when it was delivered.

I feel that if you spend THOUSANDS of dollars on a car (even w/o mods) you should keep it in top notch condition no matter what. Money spent on mods compounds that even more.

Most people I know wont take the time of day to wash their engine bay ... but they also arent the ones who are bringing home trophies from car shows ;)

For a quick easy detail trick, instead of tire foam, I use Silicone Spray... I learned this trick when I had a jet ski and needed to protect the engine from the effects of salt water. You can spray it all over everything under the hood (I try to stay away from belts though) and it leaves a nice glossy shine without ooking "cheap", and it wont damage rubber parts. I get it at Wal Mart, I think its Prestone brand for like $1.79 a can.

I dont usually spray under the hood, I just always pop the hood and wipe down everything that gets dirty with a damp towel. I find that if you start out using the silicone spray, and keep it wiped down weekly, it never really gets very dirty. The silicone helps keep any dirt from sticking, so it wipes off easily. It will also remove any remaining water, and prevents water spots. Of course, if you already let it get real bad, or if you drove through some mud puddles and theres crap all over the engine compartment, then use Protege5Gurly's detailing tutorial... looks like she knows what shes doing by the looks of her engine...

For those of you interested in the silicone -- just be carefull when you use it. Instead of spraying the engine down with it, spray it into a cloth and wipe it on. Silicone is a NIGHTMARE for paint -- especially if you ever need to repaint the area. Just as a general rule, try to buy car products that are silicone free.

Hell I do that just so my car looks nice rolling down the street. I think that a clean car shining in the sun with "dirty" wheel-wells looks dirty. Maybe I should show my car!?!

UPSMAN ... Ive been to shows where there have been cars with much fewer mods than others in the same class, yet have won since their car was considerably cleaner. The best car ive seen by far is a green jetta. This guy steam cleans his whole undercarriage while its on a lift WEEKLY. Plus, he takes the wheels off and cleans and details EVERYTHING in the wheel wells ... struts and upper strut mounts included. To showcase this, the car is on jackstands at shows, wheels off, with mirrors underneath and lights up in the strut towers so judges can see.

Thanks, you're a pal! My engine bay is fairly clean considering (and don't laugh) that I only have less than 9K miles on it and it was purchased new!! I want to keep it looking new though. :D I have been on one road trip since getting the car and work about 2 miles away. Everyone I know lives close by and when we go out, some one else drives! Can't complain, I used to be the designated driver for a while there! ;)

my engine bay so it won't rust. don't know about everyones
