Can any one help with my 1994 mazda mx5 (eunos) When switching on the headlights from the column stalk the pop up headlights cycle up and down like clarence the clowns car! They operate o.k from the centre console over ride switch. The control retract relay under the fascia has been checked and all was ok. Please help as its no fun down the lanes in pitch black at 70 mph!

Thought I would just leave this gem of info after 7hours labour, and a complete session of reverse engineering, I found the fault. Here goes... The complete circuit through the car was followed and one headlamp motor stripped down to draw the relevant wiring diagram and find out how the system should work. If anyone wants the diagram, and I can find out how to draw the thing on a computer, I will send it to you. It turns out that the headlight retract relay located behind the R.H fascia on a R.H.D vehicle is responsible for suppling the master swiitch in the centre console with 12v on a white and red wire. This supply has to be present at the correct time during open or retract of the headlights. The vehicle in question had been fitted with an immobiliser of some age, and this immobiliser had developed a fault which had resulted in someone partially disconnecting the immobilser system. Unfortunately they had connected into this white and red wire behind the fascia and the partialy removed immobilser, which still had a permanent supply was "bleeding" a permanent 12v into this wire which results in the headlights opening when headlights are switched on and immediately retracting etc etc.I hope this helps to someone out there. All the best, Steve Smith.
