Honestly, i wouldn't fix it up. It just seems like a waste of $$$ for some reason. My last car, 2000 Celica, was an auto and i never fixed it up...

It just seems like a waste of $$$ for some reason.. esepcially if you get an exhaust system. for an auto, there is a continuous sound for that hum drum from the exhaust..

but if you get a manual, there is a break in the sound when you shift, which makes it sound sooo sweet....

the poll states "(mp5)" but one of the options is "Depends on if it is a BMW/Benz.... "

anyways, i would still hook up an Auto.. just because it's an awesome hobby. who cares what tranny you have. there are some sick Automatics around..

with the onset of the hiboost turbo for autos id say its definatly shouldnt be dismissed just because its an auto.

and nothing about mt vs auto makes handling mods any less fun/ benificial.

why is it a waste of money....I believe Pirana has an auto tranny...I don't think anyone would say that car is a waste of money

yeah... pull up next to a riced out civic in a turbo'd pro... then take off slowly and make sure he hears your auto shifting... then stomp on it. at the next light, tell him he got beat by an automatic. hahahahaaha... that's just great. anyway, i'm modding my auto. one of these days, when i'm rich, i'm going to make it a 300whp beast with a level 10 auto tranny, the biggest mofo turbo ever, forged internals, ported and polished, etc. etc. oh yeah... and a complete engine management system. i'll pay someone tons of money to do it. then i'm gonna get me some real racing wheels and some real racing coilover system, and make it my track car. i'll eat up speedvision! hahahaaha... yeah, right.

matthew is right...only mercedes doesn't offer a manual in any of their ultralux lines. the bmw 540i comes with a manual as standard, auto as an option. the competing mercedes e430 only comes with an auto. even the amg mercedes come with an auto.

So you think just because someone is handicapped and HAS to have an auto it is a waste of time for them to mod the car? Maybe they want to get somewhere fast too.....:p

Although I drive an automatic p5 with that fancy-dancy sport shift, I'd never dream of "fixing it up" to any extent. Heck, I question why I got the HKS axle-back everyday. It'd just be more of a hassle to take it off and put the old muffler on the rusted joints.

Nothing against modifying an automatic car in general, just not the Protege5. A whopping 130hp at the crank and sub 100whp is a horrible baseline to work with and I'm not even a car guy. Sleeper or not, some cars weren't meant to do some things.

Look at Micah... for weeks/months we listened to him talk about this turbo project on his automatic. I was actually intrigued (silly me). Where does it stand now? He was trying to sell it and never even posted dyno numbers. At least as of the last time I checked...

Waste of time, waste on money and energy.

who cares if its only an auto... the AMG S55 is rediculous.. my boss owns one... he let me drive it.... his mistake :D

However, who would honestly spend more money modifying an S55? Last I checked those aren't $15,000 cars.

Plus if you notice the thread title you see the "MP5" part. We've all driven nice automatic transmission sports cars, that's for sure... we all know that 99.9% of them we'd take in a heart beat over an automatic Protege5.

i say mod it no matter what ******* tranny you have. still fun to take turns fast no matter what your driving. also, its not like the manual give you alot more horsepower to start with. just alittle more fun to drive

Just do what I'am going to do and what mp5jeff already did hook up your auto and then do a manual tranny swap (glare)

I've got the mazdaspeed axleback.. and I'm putting in a CAI within the next week. Other than that.. maybe headers.. everything's going into suspension and audio.. maybe one day I'll swap the tranny.. but that's not for a couple.. err.. few years.

The auto might not make the cool noises and all.. but its still fun to whip around corners and such.. and it makes it a lot easier to eat and drive and such.

If I want to, I don't get a break in the sound when I shift (dunno) ;)
