police cruiser specs

yeah i think that those numbers someone posted are not accurate...cause i have seen the damn crown vics run down ppl a lot faster than whut is stated. but yeah i have seen all the above listed police cars: corvette, old 5.0 mustang, crown vic, impala, old caprice, harley davidson...and let me tell you...that guy on the motorcycle earned his bike he is on now cuase it didnt start out as that...was some honda or something at first and now they got him a harley cause he wrote so many tickets in the first year of them having it in the town i work in...gotta watch out everywhere for him cause he can hide anywhere and will too and oh yeah...border patrol have like s-10s and expeditions..it was actually funny one time...we were in an expedition one time and couldnt keep up with the one that passed us

Cmon guys, it's not about Speed. The radio is going to get you, not the individual cop car. All they have to do is get close enough to get a basic description of your car, not even the plates and then the eye in the sky takes over. Anyone who has run up and down I-64 in VA has seen that. (Keep that in mind those of you who are going to the Spool Meet.)

How true, you may be able to outrun a car, but you can't outrun a Motorola...

vodapas - i know the feeling. i sorta live out in the boonies (i.e long country two-lane roads with no street lights, population 765 according to the sign) and the local pd used to have all black camaros with only strobes front and rear. they parked themselves off the side of the road at night and just wait....that was just plain mean. and then the whole police force resigned....now we only have hwy patrol every now and then.

The entire police force resigned? Can't beat that with a stick. lol. I grew up in IL and one thing I really liked there was the fact that an unmarked unit can not sit stationary and gun you. So you at least had a fighting chance. Well, not so much at night. lol.

Out here the cops are supposed to have the blue light on top solidly illuminated at night, but very few of them follow that rule and seriously who is really going to make them.

In Edison, NJ a local BMW dealer once gave the PD a M3.

In Metuchen, NJ there's a DARE 240SX....

yeah, apparently the police chief had one too many wives.....as for the rest, i dunno why they resigned. rumours circled about embezzlement? they were giving some stupid tickets...they gave one girl a ticket for going 1 mph over the speed limit. so go figure on that.

hm..

Those numbers I guess could be right, but at least were I live they don't apply. I worked with our police department for 4 and a half years, and was envolved with my fair share of pursuits. I personally have done 167mph in the crown vics that we have, before the chase came to an end.

I am not sure else where but the vics we have, yes get a lot weight added because of equipment, but they also get rid of things they don't need BEFORE they add all the extras. I am not sure of the 0-60 times, but its pretty damn quick. Just from driving them myself I know they aren't something easy to outrun, but like I said that is here.

Also its not the singal cop that is gonna get ya, its the radio.

theres a DARE car a 97 Supra Twin Turbo, i saw it and i was aww damit lol. my friends step dad was a Palm Beach Shierif with a Intercepter and omfg it was crazy had a Nitros and allot of work only one here and they only way to find out wich car was to look under the hood lol

Once one of acquaintances was coming home from a ski trip (down from Hunter or something to NJ - this is NY/NJ area) and he got nailed by a fire truck. hahahaha. Seems the local fireman was also the sheriff. Now that's funny...

DO NOT scoff at the caprice interceptors. one of my buddies has a 96 with a 9C1 police package. on the highway that thing is a beast! i don't think there are too many cars that could outrun that thing short of corvettes/ferraris/lambo's/porsche.

Here are some of the performance numbers:
Chevrolet Impala
0-60 = 9.25
Quarter mile = 17.02 @ 83.20 mph
top speed = 126

I had a 94 Caprice 9c1 LT1. Its a former NYPD police car with 32k miles. There is no way that that car went 0-60 in 9.25 seconds. Unfortunetly I never took the car to the track to get documented numbers, but I know my car was faster than that. :wtf:

damn that car was a beast..

RIP.... :'(

Not to mention that I could do 115mph down the parkway with no problems. (I had antenna's all over it, wig wags in the grill, and a siren that I only used to mess with friends..
(wait did I say that outloud)

For all you NJ people..A source told me that..Ocean County PD purchased a couple of those SRT-4's..and are using them ..to catch illegal street racers!

Chas

Wow acidbbg, thanks for the info about the SRT-4 in ocean county. Now they can be all stelth. Street racing out here has kind of gotten out of hand. Dover road used to be a hotspot for racing. Cops would fly down the road and everyone would scatter, the cops would only get 5-10 cars out of 100+. So they decided to turn off their headlight and just shine their spotlight so it looked like a bike.

I used to be into it more but I have seen to many friends get hurt. It makes you think when you see a friends mustang go off the road and get split in half by a tree.

thanks again acidbbg, I will make sure to notify the proper people..

I have :D

Over here in the DC area wanna be thugs are hooked on Caprices especially with police packages.

Caprices and Impalas are a dime a dozen here. Seems like MD bought 1/2 the Impalas ever sold.
