once again, another wheel bearing busted on my car, and I do not have money to take it to a shop to get it swapped.

can someone with a bearing press please help me?
i have a good bearing in a knuckle that went bad, would it be possible to remove the bearing from there, and remove the bad bearing from my car, and swap the good bearing? (the good bearing is from the opposite side knuckle)

i could trade something, or give you like 10 or 20 dollars, please help me! I'll love you forever.

I live in the N.E. Atlanta area (near buford/dacula)

Actually I am in the same boat. One more of my bearings is going bad. I got one replaced and I figure I'll get the other three replace while I am at it. So, I am in the Winder area, but willing to travel to Buford. I heard that someone on here has a bearing press. How much are the replacement bearings again?

PM Prodigy, he has a shop press in his garage, and may very well be able to help you. He's a really nice guy, and loves to work on s***.

Be prepared to purchase Chic-Fil-a if you do business with him.

I recall you said he was a "chicken sammich fiend." I knew someone here had a press. However, can he help take them out or would that be a procedure I'd have to do prior. Cause at that point it might be less costly to get the mech to replace them. It's not like it's a performance thing.

On that note though, do they make bearings that are better and longer lasting?

cookie if you wanna stop by my shop again i can do that bearing for you like i did the last one

oh man, yeah that would be really cool. I just need to find a ride down there again, I would have to take the bad knuckle off my car.

I'm going to try to find someone closer first, but if I can get a ride all the way down there, I'll be sure to pm you. thank you man

WTF Korey? I need help too... it's ok. I'll just go to the same place that told me Erin's car would be fine for another 100K miles or so. (Just so you're aware, two days later, her car stalled and won't start at all).

I'd offer to help but my shop press is at the lakehouse until I finish the epoxy in the garage.

I have the shop press back if this hasn't been taken care of already.

Okay, this is yet again, getting really annoying.

I ended up having no choice but to borrow money from an aunt to get the work done. not only did the drivers side wheel bearing go bad, that cv axle had to be replaced (according to the mechanic). the work was done, and $485 later, I got the car back. it ran a little strange on the way home, kind of like there was a bearing with no lube. it wasn't unbearabley loud, it was just barely noticeable. a few days go by, and that hum noise becomes a very loud HUM!HUM!HUM! along with some bad vibrations.

I get my car in the garage, and I look under the car, and there seems to be an oil of sorts leaking out, its all over the control arm-steering arm-knuckle-gear box/transmission. I assumed it was gear oil, and I tried pouring a little in the car, while it was level to try to prevent over filling, and it took about a quart. I took the car back this morning, and he looked under the car, and tried to tell me my transmission was going bad, and would have to be replaced. I then point out the gear oil is leaking from where the drivers side cv axle goes into the tranny (if thats what it is) and he says, oh, there must be a bad seal in there, and then says my transmission is fine. I leave the car there, and I get a call saying he found the bearing and seal in there to be bad, and would reccomend changing it, for $100. I aggreed, and I picked up the car a few hours later.

When I got the car back, it felt like a champ! felt nice and torquey, and the suspension felt right on. I drove it home without a problem. an hour or two later, I leave for work, and right when pulling out of the driveway, I hear a light, almost not noticeable "Hm!Hm!" it stopped there, and I proceeded to the stop sign on my street. I turned left, and then heard a "Hm!Hm!Hm!" slightly louder than last time, but it went away, and the car has continued to do that every so often while I drive. It did it consistently before I brought the car in this morning, and then went away, and is now slowly coming back.

does anyone know whats really going on here? im getting really pissed at the mechanic I've been taking my car to.

The $485 also covered some light body work the mechanic did to the front of my car, the bumper had been a little torn off my car from a really bad driveway entry

It sounds like this mechanic is giving you the shaft dude. You should bring it to one of our experienced Protege guys, they'll likely know what the problem is.

Yeah this same thing is sort of happening with me except they keep telling me that my bearing is going bad BUT it's covered under warranty so all it costs me is time. They also replaced my axle.

Here is my question for the gurus, is the MSP axle better than a stock one? Because I am afraid they put a stock Protege axle on if there is a better one.

The msp one is a little bit bigger... (1-2mm) which usually ends up being 30% stronger.
The regular protege axles hold up fine (I'm still using mine).

Well damn. Now you got me concerned. I am sure they didn't have the Mazdaspeed axle right on hand. Of course, he did say he had to order it... maybe he ordered the right one. I'll call them and find out.
