I was just wondering where poeple have mounted a playstation 2 in there cars? I am wanting to put mine in, but also wanting to be able to take it out fairly easily. As far as powering, I have a converter, but is there another way, like a lighter plug for the playstations?

Thanks

Haven't seen a direct adapter for PS2. I am thinking of making a power supply. But that's down the road. Not too mention I have a bunch of other things to do first.

As for mounting, it almost fits in the glove box, but it's like .25" too wide. If i could get another PS2 cheap or another glove box I'd be more inclined to cut stuff up.

This link def seems like the best ive seen i a wial http://www.caraudiomag.com/technical/0305cae_swap/
They break it down into simple and easy to use instructions and they even give you a good mounting idea. The only thing about thier mounting idea is any1 just walking by can easily see ur ps2 just in the open. I dont have a garage for my car and still havent tinted it so havin my ps2 right there wouldnt be such a great idea. I guess you could mount it under the seat but i feel that doing that way is not using your mind to the fullest. Come on people out of all of us on this forum we could come up with some sick mounting ideas for our cars. I wont be ordering my screen for about another month but when i do ill let you guys know if i could think of any nice ideas for mounting the ps2. And as far as that bracket gos. 99bucks its pretty exspensive for a shaped peace of sheetmetal. Not only will i have to find a dif place for my ps2 i will have to find i new place for my headunit because the screen im gona get isnt a flip out.

well in the sunfires our glove compartements are deep enough to mount the ps2 in. what i did is mount mine in the trunk though. i hardwired a converter in. and bought extentionions for my controllers, i run the controller extentions under the floor and into the center console. and i bough extra power and vidio wires. so when i was gong to a show i just pulled the plugs in the house. set it on my stand and plugged the hardwired lines in the car. then plugged my controllers into the center console. this way i didnt have to deal with any wires i could just take the box.

yea, its a good article, i posted it two posts up, hehe. had mine under the seat for a while, but got annoying, so i took it out... (thumb)

you could always mount it in the center console too. youd have to fiberglass a new one, but it wouldnt be that tough. ive seen it a couple times where it sits verticle and recessed in to the back of the console so the front is facing the back seat. that would be the cleanest except the glove box. but i kinda like sndsgood trunk mount idea too.

Mine sits flush underneath the glove box, id post pics but im about to get new and better mounting brackets made.

I had an idea once about this, although maybe it should be left to cars that aren't daily drivers. In the ES (and all other 3rd gen models I'm guessing) the passenger-side airbag panel is above the glovebox. I was thinking that if this and the airbag was removed, the PS2 could be placed under with a plexiglass sheet in place of the panel. You'd need some way of accessing the cd tray though. I got the idea after deciding to replace my glovebox with a plexiglass-covered carputer....but it might be a little too taxing on the stock battery (shrug) .

what about this..... i read that you can take the cd tray out? extend the wires.... so you hide the actuall box and then just moutn the tray somewhere, and then get the ports for the controllers or get the wireless controllers? correct me if i am wrong

I don't see why that wouldn't work. However, you also have to factor in the cooling for the unit itself, the fans in the PS2 aren't there for nothing.

That sounds kinda odd. i herd of using the wire exstenders but not taking out the tray. But im glad i sparked all this crazy thinking. its awsome. I really like the airbad idea. Maybe u could have it under there then have it motoized so the panel and ps2 rise up. that way no one could see ur ps2 unless u wanted them to

thas was a big thing a few years back is the ps2's popping out of passenger side airbags, ive seen a couple that were fiberglassed right into the dash above the glovebox, so basically all u see is the front cover where the tray slides out.

They are very easy to take apart and extend wiring for the tray and everything else. The only part that needs cooling is the processor. I'd do it but I suck at fabbing new mounting stuff and fiberglassing. If the damn thing was 1/8-14" shorter it'd fit in the glovebox. I even got a dead spare PS2 for fabbing the stuff. I just haven't had any time.

is it possible to just dremel out the back of the glove box and gain that 1/4" this would also open up the glove box giving the hot air a place to escape since the fan is in the back anyway

It's not the back that needs it, it's the sides. You could easily modify the glovebox a bit to get it to fit though. I was trying to find a used glovebox to modify, but never got one.
