PLay station install

So, I dont think that this is hard to do, but I have never done it before and want to know how to do it..
What I want to do is hook up my ps2 to my in dash moniter, to use it as a dvd player and also to play games on. What excactly do I need to buy to run the ps2. I dont want to use my cig lighter.

the easy way would be to get a dc/ac power inverter and hard wire it. if you do hard wire it, make sure to put an appropriate sized fuse on the positive wire. if you're really lazy, you could just tap into the cig lighter's power wire, but i prefer the hard wire & separate fuse route.

If you have a new version of the PS2 you can look on the back and see what voltage it needs. I think it is 8VDC and go to radioshack and get something to drop the voltage to that and tap it right into your batter source.

Where are you planning on installing the system? Glove box?

ya.. im gonna put in the glove box... i might try to make a little shelf in there for it.. i dunno yet, depends on if i can figure out how to install the wiring and s***

It's very easy to wire up. Especially with the newer model. Do a search for PS2 car adapters and there is a few out there for around 10-15 dollars. Get one of those and go to radio shack and get a cigarette lighter kit from them. There is only two wires coming from the cigarette lighter ground and 12 volt source. Just connect them to their proper connections making sure there is a fuse on the positvie side somewhere and plug the cig adapter in and you are set. Using an AC/DC adapter will work but is more expensive and draws more power than needed. To wire the audio and video it should be the same as connecting it to a tv. In my car I had the video(yellow)going to my monitor, and the audio (red and white) to the headunit.

alright, but what if im already using the cig lighter fo r the radar detector??

Oh no than your screwed. Ha just kidding. You can go to Radio shack and get just the female part of the cigarette adapter(Confused which side that is just think about how the cig adapter works) That female adapter has two wires off of it and you can hardwire it right to the battery or another 12 volt source. Attach the male cig adapter to the female adapter(the male is the one that is going to the ps2) tape it with some electrical tape for good measure just to cover your ass and tuck it behind the dash or some other place of choice. No ugly wires showing. You can do the same with your radar detector too. I don't like wires showing.
