Has anyone heard anything about the P-Zero NERO. I am due for tires soon and still haven't decided what to buy. I'd be getting 215/40 and I don't want to spend more than $570 on rubber and I don't want Kuhmo's or Yokahama Parada's.

What tires have you guys been looking at aside from Kuhmo 712, 711 or Parada's?

Sorry to bust your bubble, but If you want to spend less than 570 then any tire other than Parada Spec 2s will be a step down at least as far as dry performance goes. Kumhos aren't bad either. Just splurge and get the BF Goodrich G-force KDs!

Falken Azenis are a great tire for the price, I wouldn't recomend any other Falken tire but these are REAL nice

the NERO tread looks a lot like the Dunlop SP5000 Sports that we get on the ES, just with water channels cut in the tread. I dont know what the tread wear rating or temp rating is on the nero but I think you'll find the traction of those to be nowhere near the SP9000's you guys get on the MP3. don't get me wrong the sp5000's are ok dry but wet traction is horrible, even the old Goodyear eagle HP's I had on a miata didn't hydro as bad as the 5000's on my ES.

Do you not like Yokohama's or just the Parada's (and spec-2)? The reviews for the Yokohama AVS ES100s on tirerack.com look pretty good and I think somebody on here recomended them. I was leaning that way for my next set of tires.

I always wonder about the Parada's having an asymetric tread but no left vs. right pattern.

Well, I'm pretty sure that these Nero's will hold up fine when it comes to stickiness. They're rated at 220 and these are considered summer tires. Don't let tread patterns make your decision for you. Don't forget, these are P-Zero's as well, so I'm pretty sure they'll be good for they're money.

I don't want Parada's because they are god awfull load and I don't want Kuhmo's because everyone and their mother has them. I was thinking of the Nero's because I haven't seen them on any cars yet, it could be because they're still kind of new. Or it could be that people aren't buying them because the tread pattern isn't agressive enough...

The Nero's have the same rating as the S0-3's but the Nero's are $30 bucks cheaper. Interesting...

Tread wear ratings cannot be compared between brands, and shouldn't be confused with stickiness. A sticky tire will have a rating of 200-220, BUT not every tire that has a 220 rating will be sticky. I may be a little picky, but my preferences are based on autocross performance. For 100 bucks a tire the spec 2s are THE BEST to fit a stock MP3 (autocross). Of course there are better tires for more money! It seems a little silly to buy, or not to buy, a tire because a lot of people have them. It is a tire for christs sake!...............Bottom line, budget tire Parada Spec2s ......... Money no object, Toyos, BFG KDs, maybe s 03s .

Hmmm, that sounds very familiar....probably because I said something very similar to what you did, but in another post about 2 months ago.:p

Our Dunlops on the MP3's are 280 A A. As for a 280 Yokohama being compared to a 280 Dunlop, they should wear differently. It is my understanding that the ratings are unique to each tire and just because 2 different tires share the same rating, it doesn't mean that they will wear at the same rate. My Kuhmo 712 on my Civic were also 280, but those seemed not to really wear at all compared to these Dunlops which are also 280. The Yokohama A520 and Parada wore really fast on a few of my friends cars. We all shared the same kind of driving habits, but it still isn't a fair way to compare them all.

I wasn't trying to make a point, just thought it was funny how you were saying something I said a while back ;). Sorry if my post came across kind of rude.:(

No problem, I wasn't trying to be an ass either, it is just hard to tell by posts. It is good to get the info out there though, even I at first thought that you could compare by just tire ratings, but as you know, it just aint so!:)
