heres the premier version for $166
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/letsgodigital/dehp670mp.html
personally im not too fond of how that hu looks only because it looks like the one i had in my mp3 which was about 2 years+ old. so to me, it just looks outdated. but hey..........if you like it thats all that matters. i think its really werid how the screen is blue lights but the buttons are green lights. that juswt doesn't make any sence to me.

Back to topic: i agree!!

What the hell are you talking about that "kenwood is 90% software and 10% good sound quality?.... pioneer is 100% sound and software!" ?

That makes absolutely no sense. Have you ever even owned a Kenwood?

Like a handful of other people on this board, I appreciate better sound components in my stereo. Pioneer is a lot of flash and cute graphics, but you have to spend well over 3 bills to get something that's considered on par with the upper echelons of head units.

Kenwood has had build quality issues with the DMASK setup. I don't deny that. But I can look past that knowing that the MP919 in my MSP is much better s/q-wise (to my ear) compared to anything under the Pioneer P8600MP in their lineup. My friend has a P860MP - lots of flash, some neat features, but otherwise hohum.

For my money I'll take a Kenwood KDC-X589 with 4 volt preouts, Burr Brown DACs, and a much better S/N ratio than Pioneer ever had - all that from onlinecarstereo.com for $180. Try getting that in a Pioneer for anything under $300.

Here's a little armchair comparison of specs for the Pioneer 770MP and P80MP with two Kenwood Excelons:

Ben

P.S. I also owned a Kenwood back in 1996 - again much better quality than anything Pioneer had for the same price at that time.

P.P.S. I wouldn't buy a regular Kenwood these days - just the Excelons. Better components and longer warranty.

alpine is like 60% sound and 40% software
pioneer is 100% sound and software! they put hard work on their HUs (protest) (protest) (protest) (protest) (protest)

"if you build it it will stop rattleing!" lol

Ben people are entiteled to the own opinions i have had kenwood for 4 years so i know exactly what im talking about, and i sued to mod the actual firmwares for the HUs, software is 90% of your HU! if you didn't know and 10 is hardware. just do your research alittle bit and you will find it pioneer makes one of the top HU for under 500$ (headbang) just a thought

I agree that people are entitled to their opinions. I have also done enough of my own research on head units to know what is important for sound quality. I never said Pioneer wasn't good. I did imply that it gets too much hype for what it offers at that price point.

The fact that you sued Kenwood to mod the firmware in no way indicates that their firmware is not good. Since I don't know the circumstances of the lawsuit, I won't comment on it any further.

With that said, I will insert my opinion like everyone else:
1) No amount of software/firmware can replace what doesn't exist in hardware.

2) There are better HUs out there for the money. Pioneer specializes in flash and fancy stuff. Their low end units, while having lots of bells and whistles, doesn't compare specs-wise with anything considered high end in the same category. I'd pit a $300 Eclipse or Kenwood Excelon unit against anything Pioneer has under $300 any day.

Thanks and have a good day

Ben

Pioneer or even better JVC

I just ordered a shx850 wich is the same suggested retail price than the pioneer 860p.

It has 280 watts instead of 200 and it has and SD memory slot so I don't have to burn CDs anymore!

Can't wait to get it....

And yes my kenwood z828 was changed twice under waranty so that's why I'm going with a JVC.

so yea...
i just finished install everything
seems like the HU is sticking a lil bit out...
is that normal??
i think its already touching the metal bar in the bar...

you sure there aren't some wires in the back that the hu is sitting on? mine stuck out a little until i cleard ALL the wires from the back out of the way. as long as the p5 radio pocket is like the msp yours should fit perfectly. mine does.
