Only mods i have are the ngk copper plugs and a k&n drop in filter....I was driving around today (temps in the 70's) and when I was in the higher rpm's my blitz gauge was reading around .45-.46 hkpa which is where it should be at stock boost...

but then i started hearing faint metallic rattling....wtf is wrong w/ my car...i heard this when i had the boost turned up...but it shouldn't be like this at stock boost?

any suggestions?

up the octane grade a lil. 94 Octane all the way on my baby...cept when this one attendant thought I said regular...******

sorry for thread jack but...damn u new jerseyians. haha is that what ur called? cheaper gas and they pump it for u...

we dont have 94 out here in California...only 91...

I really hope this isn't anything serious, because I'm trying to be cautious...that is why I took out my MBC awhile ago...I don't want to blow my engine...

too bad you can't use at least 93 but 91 should be ok for stock boost. You can try some octance boost next fillup and just see what that does. If it helps some then I would think the gas your using isnt good. What brand do you use. Basically gas is gas its just the detergents and additives used vary by brand.

don't use octane booster it will damage the seals in the turbo. i think you got some bad gas. check your plugs.

thanks justin h

uhhh what?

The off the shelf "octane booster" you buy at autozone or whatever will rasie your octane abotu .3 points. Its a waste of money, but it will not hurt anything.

well it might of been a bad gallon of gas or something...because it seems the pinging went away...last time i filled up, i used shell.

as far as the octane booster/additives, i've heard they ok for our cars, and others said they're bad..so i dunno...

I can't think of why it would be so if you are running 91 Oct. Did this happen only at WOT or normal driving...

Since when does the fuel get even near a turbo on our fuel injected car? It doesn't.

Note: The only thing you have to worry about when using octane booster is making sure that it says its okay for use the cat. converters and O2 sensors.

I only seemed to hear the noise when i was hitting full boost at wot or near it...

I'm hoping that it isnt detonation. At maximum boost is where you would detonate more easily. I have no ideas except higher octane, FMIC, Fuel Considerations... Lower boost...

Sorry man. I'm stumped.

If it sounds the way you described it, it sounds like detonation, chances are you got a bad tank of gas, it has happened to me a few times, luckily i had access to race gas.

I have had similar problems in my audi. it is very sensative to octane, whenever i get bad gas I buy a gallon of toulene, its about 114 octane,

to figure out your final octane rating use this formula
x = total capacity
y = octane
z= total octane

(1/x * 114) + ( x-1/x * Y) = z

thanks for the info..is toulene ok for the cats/o2 sensors?
