If you look at any new vehicle on a dealer lot, you will notice that front and back urethane bumpers aren't an exact match with the body color, in certain light. A straight-on view will usually show a close, if not perfect match. An angle view will usually show a color/metallic flake change because of the way the urethane accepts paint. This is also true with fiberglass.

This is because paint sprayed on steel or aluminum panels doesn't "lay" the same as the same paint sprayed on, let's just say, "plastic" materials. Even if a metallic color blends perfectly in certain lights, it generally will not blend in a cross-light. This is true of all metallics; it's the nature of the way metalflake settles onto plastics, regardless of primer color.

I got into a lengthy discussion over this with my bodyman who is a paint-match wizard. He attended an all-day class on this problem and how to deal with it. The best you can do is match the paint as closely as possible--exactly, if you will--and spray extremely carefully so that the metallic content in the base paint looks exactly like the original finish you're trying to match when seen dead-on in daylight. And there will still be a slight difference.

Don't forget, if you are doing two-stage--clear over color, the color will change--deepens slightly--when the clearcoat dries, compared to the paint w/o clearcoat.

Been through this too many times to count...

daytime pics (a few) here you can notise the shaved badges in the back, and the black painted accents (valence rear, spoiler and roof)

Better. Did you paint around the window trim. I like it better solid black. Whatever floats your boat. Did you trim out the cente bottom on the rear? Thats what it looks like. I got to see this in person.

nah i didnt paint the window trim, i just removed all of the black tape over it. i wanted as much silver as i could find (below the roof)

no its not trimmed off on the rear, its painted black to match roof and spoiler. dude, i live a stone's throw away from you and we've still never hung out! (boom07)
