Pics of Double Din Mazda5 Avic-D3 Install

With the steering wheel cable connection does pressing a volume button get the same reaction time as the factory radio? Read somewhere you have to press and hold and wait a bit? Also what model/brand camera did you buy and where did you mount it?

Absolutely no difference from factory - everything is instantaneous, same thing with up/down on steering wheel - touch it once to go to next preset, or hold it a bit to scan to next available station with FM - also controls IPOD - up/down for next song, or hold it to fast forward thru a song. Only thing is I paid about $150 for the steering wheel cable, but does work great!

I got this in my car and I couldnt get it to sit flush like the way I want it but after many hours and ghetto rigging I got it and I love it

WOW!...great price! Ipaid $1150 for mine, but that was about a month after it first came out....but still worth every penny!! I guarantee you'll love it!....don't forget that with factory units, a lot of people have a hand out to take your money, and still not worth the price you pay. Not sure if you're aware, but the customization of the D3 is almost endless. I set mine up with the same color scheme as the rest of the car lightling (clock, dash), and people swear it looks like a factory unit.

This is the case with me.. I have the new Kenwood DNX5120 double-din DVD/NAV unit in my '07 mazda5 with the SWI-JACK steering wheel control piece and the response time is longer than factory.. The factory controls worked much smoother without a doubt..

Techondigital is shady. The price on the website was $459. No mention of anything higher. When you call to confirm the order it's not $659 due to the $200 mail in rebate. The Rebate is through authorized Pioneer retailers only. I don't want to rick Techondigital NOT being authorized. Looks like Crutchfield is the next best for price.

I got my pioneer avic d3 in today packaged great sealed box and every thing was in the box. i also registered it with pioneer today and all whet fine with the serial #.I have been worried after googling the company's name.

The same is the case with my D-3 system with the SWI interface, the buttons on the steering wheel need to be pressed just a few microseconds longer than with the stock Mazda5 headunit. I imagine it is just a factor of the SWI interface unit translating the steering wheel button input to the D-3 headunit input.

Question

I just got my 5 two days ago. How do you take apart the dash to pull the radio out. My Mazda 3 was pretty easy to do.

The clarion unit model is MAX675VD. I was also considering the Panasonic CQ-VD6505U. They both appear to be pretty decent. The prices are affordable as well. Let me know what you think.

Hi, sorry to bump this old thread, but how did this work out? I'd love to remove the HD radio and replace it with a Pioneer system that supports both BlueTooth and iPod. I was told that the factory navi can't be used without the factory radio... I sure hope it does...

Anyone?

I have the Hard disk/Navigation/Rear View camera combination (nav unit in the glove compartiment, flipout screen on top in the dashboard).

BTW: very nice installation, looks amazing!

Well, I decided to have a look myself, I had some time to spare. It looks like the navi and radio are completely separate systems (unlike what my Mazda dealer said (sssh)), so I can take out the HD system and put something in place instead (friday)

I think I'll go for the Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD + iPod and BT module :)

I installed my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD double din DVD AV Receiver in my Mazda 5 yesterday. Installation was a breeze thanks to the Pioneer double DIN face plate and CA-R-PI.136 kit. It was just a matter of removing all the panels, taking the stock radio out, installing the new face plate, connect all the cables and that's it. It was all plug-and-play, no need to solder or add anything at all.

I'm still waiting for my BlueTooth kit and iPod adapter cable and then I'm fully ready to go. I have the entertainment package (roof-mounted DVD unit + screen) with the factory navigation system, I need to check out the wiring harness so that I can hook it (=DVD player) up to my Pioneer unit (it's a 5 wire connector, anyone know the cable layout for these?). I connected the Video Out on my Pioneer unit to the aux in so that I can display the movie I'm playing on the roof screen. I'd like to connect the DVD player to my Pioneer unit so that I can play a movie on the roofmounted DVD system and play it through the car sound system (Pioneer video/audio in). I can do it vice versa, but I'd like to have this option too. If someone can help me out, I would be very happy (better: even happier than I'm now at the moment).

The factory navigation still works as before but I seem to have lost the voice command which is odd because I thought that the steering controls were connected directly to the Nav unit. But, that's no biggie, I hardly ever use voice commands. Still, it would be nice if this worked. Anyone ideas?

I'm very happy that I did this upgrade. I had the HDD system, which was nice but I have most of my CDs (about a 700) on my iPod so ripping it to the internall HDD was double work for me. I couldn't use the factory iPod solution (which doesn't work that well, I've read) and I wanted a BlueTooth handsfree carkit. I now have everything I want, I'm very happy!

Can you post pics? How did you install a double din radio AND keep the factory Nav?

Indeed, I kept the factory NAV (the popup version on top of the dashboard) and I installed a double DIN radio. That's two screens (2thumbs)

Looks nice BTW. I'll post some pics later in the day, ok?

I'm going to touch up the little scratch above the double Din, clumsy me (boom02)

Everything works fine, including the steering wheel controls. Thanks Pioneer! (burnout)

Baco, what country are you in, and does your Trip Computer still work since you swapped out the radio? I see in the pics it just has dashes across the Trip display.

Everything still works as before (except for the voice controlled navi function). Mileage, fuel consumption, average fuel consumption etc everything works perfectly! My 5 doesn't welcome me anymore, that's all :(

The Pioneer adapter kit is amazing, just unplug the factory connector, plug it into the wiring harness provided and connect it to the ISO equiped radio. No need for cutting/soldering/modifying cables, it's super!

I'm from Belgium btw.

I only need to figure out the wiring on the second connector (rear entertainment system) so that I can connect these to my Pioneer unit.
