Picking Up Our 08 Today

As the title says, we are picking up Mrs Sparkybhoys 08 GT from the dealer this afternoon.

Concluded the financing last night, and it will be ready to rock and roll (minus the dealer stickers Perfecto (yes))

I'll try to post some photos in the photo thread later on, depending on how dark it gets by the time I get to the dealership.

I managed to get a reasonable deal on it as well, considering it is only 1 of 2 that they got in on Monday. Also saves me wasting time e-mailing/visiting other dealerships to save a $ and perhaps wait longer for one...

Congrats! Would love to see some pics!:D

Still waiting for them to show up on winnipeg.

If you don't mind, what accessories did you get if any, and what was your OTD price?

I picked up the Cargo Liner, as Mrs SparkyBhoy was intent on putting one stroller, complete with grubby wheels, in the trunk this afternoon. I was figuring on one up, along with roof crossbars from a Mazda online store, but oh well. The liner cost me $65 incl taxes (10% discount - woo, and indeed, hoo). I won't be paying the dealer price for the bars though.

When we sat down to go through the figures, they tabled $33,958 OTD. I said forget it (they got told where to stick the $600 'Documentation Fee'), we played games for a while and ended up after about 30 minutes agreeing on $32,014 - including GST, PST, various battery & tire Levy's (hey, B.C. stands for 'Bring Cash' remember).

I figure that they could have gotten it sold this weekend for sticker, plus all their 'add-ons' but I was the one sitting in their showroom on a wet Wednesday.

TBH I went in there with a figure of $32,131 as my OTD figure, and had based the down payment and monthly payments on that.

Happy guy.

yeah some how i had a documentations fee, as a first time car buyer, i didnt notice so many lil things so i got jipped

"Preparation, preparation, preparation" Kyoshiro - as Ben Kingsley said in 'Sexy Beast'.

I guess it's all about your nature, your level of comfort in terms of price and ability to haggle, and having the brass neck to sit there and back-and-forth with them.

TBH, the dealership had no idea how I knew pricing for the 08's as they aren't posted, so they were betting on me not knowing, and I was betting on your man Jeff from RFD being right! (which he was).

I knew that they would be trying all the tricks in the book, so I went there with the intention of playing the game - and had a bottom line OTD figure noted in my head (actually I had it noted in my Palm, as I have a terrible memory) that I wasn't going to go over (including all the Stat Gov levies that they charge)...and I didn't, by about $117.

The Bill Of Sale breakdown/detail is all weird and wonderful (it even says under Doc Fees 'Included' - (uhm) yeah sure), but I knew what my final OTD number was before I went in - and that's what I came away with.

You know as well as I do how popular the 5's are in the Lower Mainland, so the chances of them hanging on to it for any time was virtually nil, especially given that it's the new model year, so I was chancing it a bit as they could have shown me the door and sold it this weekend.

It was my first real car negotiation (the last one was negotiated with the dealership via e-mail/Car Cost Canada), so it was a new experience for me, but I'm used to haggling now and again, so the thought of it didn't bother me!

RPM at 60mph

Have been waiting for the 08 primarily for the 5AT.

Have owned two Mazdas to date, and only complaint has been gearing "too high RPMs" at freeway speeds.

Would appreciate knowing the RPM at 60mph on your 08.

Thanks in advance.

Or @ ~96Km/hr, eh? ;)

at 140 KM/H the rpms where 4200 in fourth gear ....

the fuel rating has improved by 1.4L pur 100 KM highway.... that is impressive

I have an 06 5MT, not 5AT but similar case to Zoom5Zoom. This past Thanksgiving (The US one I should say) drove ~800 miles round trip. On the way there, with a little bit of rush, drove @ 75MPH-80MPH average and got 24.1MPG, On the way back, full belly (pumpkin pie included) and no rush, I drove @ around 65MPH-70MPH and averaged 27.7MPG. Note: it was hilly.

Quick comment: 60MPH is really slow, I would say even dangerous, just increase it by some 5MPH to be safe ;)

Used the 60MPH number as a "common" benchmark; only time I drive that speed is when the kids are counting the 60 seconds between callboxes :-)

Thanks for the info, but a bit unclear to me. Is the 4200/140/4th based on the 4AT or 4th gear in 5MT?

I think there was a post that listed the gear ratios for 4AT and 5AT, but I wouldn't know what to do the numbers.
