interesting... perhaps a bit more definition on the dash/seats/head-rests. I faintly see the outline (don't know if that was your intent).

Neat idea though!

I'm a sucker for clean outlines of vehicles. Hell, I start all my cartoon attempts like that. Looks pretty neat to me. Only comments I have is maybe work on the lights and try to outline them as well. I think it will give it more of a "complete" look, if you know what I mean. Other than than, I like the fade of highlights in the headrests and interior pieces. Makes it look like there could actually be tinted glass on all the windows.
Kepp up the good work!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the detailing. I was just messing around with it and finally figured out the best ways to do it, but I didn't wanna sit here forever doing stuff. I'm gonna fix it up more later... good attempt on first cartoon!

Looking good clean up the headlight as mention, front fender wheel and rear fender wheel (smooth out the rear)

here's a quick 30 minute job I did, still needs color and detailing. I'm gonna do a few more sketches and first and pick the one i like best then try out some cartoon effects :)

hey bradman, what program are you using to do those outlines (you too rmedoc) just straight up PS? if PS what tools are you using? Thanks. I really want to give this a shot!

thankss....I use Flash MX to do my tracing. I use the Line Tool (N) and the Arrow Tool (V).

Step 1: Find a curve you want to trace then draw a line (Press N) from the start to end point of the curve (notice the straight line in the image)

Step 2: Select the Arrow Tool (or press V) then click near the center of the line and drag until the curve matches the curve on the image

Step 3: Let go and continue through these steps until the whole car is traced. Flash really allows you to follow the curves nicely and quickly this way once you get used to it. I use about 5 lines per circle ( wheels ) on average.

yeah the cleaness of it definitely pointed to flash, which is why I asked. And then how do you get it into Photoshop? Can you? I have never used flash MX, or that much of flash for that matter. Thanks

Export the lines to PNG with a 24 bit Alpha channel at any resolution you want. When you open the image in Photoshop, the lines will be there and the background will be transparent.

I did something similar to this with the Toyota Matrix for an ad campaign I was working on last February:

Completely done with Illustrator.

Coqui: personally, I think your piece needs a lot of work--but I'm a graphic artist, so I'm gonna be really picky. Some suggestions: got all the way one way or another. If you're going to do lines, don't leave in the headlights and rims and stuff--just use line. If you want to mix it, mix in more than just the lights. The lines could also be cleaner. As the image was loading I was with ya on the first half, but the bottom half got sloppy.

Bradman: Nice! :)

Thanks for the advice! See, I never did something like this before, so for my first try, it was fun. I'm gonna try it again another time when I have time to kill. THANKS FOR THE INFO!

I use paintshop pro, photoshop, and photoimpact to do my illustrations. Use the line tools to outline the vehicle, then color it in using the gradient tool or bucket fill. My images use about 4 layers to get everything lined up, but its well worth it. Takes some getting used too, but pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Photoshop Junkie has some great tutorials about everything relating to cars. Also, just go to google and type in cel shading tutorial and a bunch of stuff will come up I am sure.
I like the flash mx idea, but I don't think the lines will be as crisp. I'll have to try it to find out.

OK GUYS, what about now? I took a lil more time to make the curves round and do a better job. What do you think? I know it's not professional, I can do but so much with PS.

looks better, but the front half of the car needs work. Especially the front tire and rim. It looks like it got squashed. Keep at it. That was the hardest part for me to start with too. Just takes practice, and don't give up!
