Photo trick I just learned

Sooo, I couldn't sleep again... and I got up and decided to try some photo tricks I heard about with my car in the driveway...

I got the digital camera and set it on manual mode and bumped the F-stop to 4.0 and the shutter speed to 16 seconds on my Olympus C-730. I then set the camera on a cooler and lined up the shot. I pressed the shutter release button and turned on a flashlight and walked around in the shot while shining the flashlight on the car, being careful not to shine the light at the camera or allow the camera to "see" the light directly.. i.e. I was always between the camera and the light. Anyway this is my first attempt at this photo technique but I though I would share. Due to some light towers above the trees I used a photo editor to just paint over the stuff above the car. But I did nothing to car part of the pic.

I think it came out kinda interesting and not bad for a first try :). Give it a try yourself.

Cool. Looks a kinda blurry though. You were walking in front of the camera?

Got a bigger pic?

Would be cool to drive right over a camera at night, assuming you have enough clearanace for the camera. Have a friend set a timer, put the exposure on a couple seconds, and try to time it so you get over the camera just as the exposure begins.

my car can probably do that since im stock but im afraid for my camera.

Yup I was walking in front of the camera.
I posted one of the first trys I did with a pen light, I painted the car with the flashlight but it had interesting not so good results... but it is a larger version, and one of the dozen or so pic I took trying to get the tecnique to work.

BTW Due to the long exposure and my really old digital camera... It was very speckled at larger sizes. I had to shrink it that much to get a decent looking pic. My camera is a 4 year old 3.1MP. I think the newer camera would perform much better at this. If nothing else you would not have to shrink it to 640 to get it to looks good.

I am going to play around again with this next time I can't sleep and I will post the results :)

Looks like someone totally went to town on the car (and the sky) with white spray paint. Cool effect.
