Performance! What to do?

First guy: had a hole in the piston not a rod
Second guy: ran over a rock
Third guy: wasent tuned, and ran it for a year before the rod came apart not broke
Fourth guy: No one blew anything he just asked a question

so if he had a hole in the piston how did the oil get outside the car im pretty sure he blew a rod thru the sid eof the block, second on he said it sounded like a rock and he also blew a rod thru the side, 3rd he was only running 9 psi WITH SUPPORTING MODS, and the 4th if you read the ******* thread ppl chimed in and said how there motor blew. stop being so ******* dense and actually look that im trying to give you advice on how to save your motor instead of going out like alot of stupid ppl do and upthe boost and end up paying out of pocket for a new motor. but if you do insist on just upping your boost to 12 psi with no supporting mods go for it and send me the pictures when your stranded on the side of the road with oil all over the ground ;)

Learn how to use the search button SERIOUSLY!

Because if you type in zoom boom there would be pages of blown engines!

I can't wait for his blown engine story. Why are you in denial. If you want honest answers, call protege garage. Im pretty sure they will tell you everything you need to know. Yes, your engine will hold with 12 psi. The question is how long? The answer is Not Long! I been on these forums since 2005 and Ive read countless zoom zoom boom threads. Were the people being stupid? Maybe, but most cars just blew up because of the weak rods. We are trying to save you money in the long run. Buy supporting mods first, and you do gain a lot from the exhaust. The pipe between the two cats is so small. Just think about what we are telling you.

@ Flipping Elf.....

The fact of the matter is countless people have been victims of blown motors because they are notoriously weak. If you don't want to listen, fine, go ahead and blow up your engine, but at least quit arguing with people who know more about the car than you.

Damn cocky kids! JK! Seriously our stock rods are toothpicks as shown a few posts back. To be reliable 200whp is a good number with ALL SUPPORTING MODS!

what about the pistons themselves? I know its recommended pistons and rods but what about just rods on stock pistons?

meh...if you going to go all that way to take your engine apart and rebuild it you might as well so full out

Ya after reading this, and the linked threads ive become a little paranoid myself, and just bought a msp. I plan (over the time of the summer and maybe a little longer if needed) to get the general upgraded mods, most of it is listed in the "daily driver thread" (basically bolt ons), and up it to 8psi, possibly 9 after i feel comfortable about it in hopes to get it to around 200-230hp.. anyways my question is if it would really be good or needed to replace the rods, or if i would have to both? I don't drive a ton, usually just to work (couple miles away) and then around here and there, should i think into getting these rods replaced more, or could i feel safe that my car "most likely" won't blow for a while after i get these mods?..I personally haven't heard of engines blowing so much which is why this sounds like Mazda (or at least the msp) has much more of a habit of doing this and should be attended to over time. Thanks(blowup)

u want the most outta this thing with stock internals .. Unichip or SS, Cai, Upgraded IC, hardpipes, larger exhaust, upgraded IM, stage 1 clutch, motor mounts.. set boost to 8-10 psi. can anyone further this list?

upgraded IM? not sure, maybe intake manifold? but thats about if for the list that ive gotten with the addition of forge BPV but nothing big and ya.. ^^ + the gauges

I understand the rod problem, but with any car you have problems if you dont get your air/fuel right

Look I have researched about this car why else would I buy the damn thing, I cant sit here and spit out all my knowlege about cars, but it seems like too many people are spooked about this whole car breaking thing. If its such an issue than why do you all of you still own one?
I bet you all would s*** a brick if I even mentioned Nitrous!
