Performance mods

I have read about a few other peopel feeling the same way but out car seems a bit unstable to say the least. I few people have had blown engines even from being bone stock and that kidn of freaks me out a bit. IF somethign should happen I'd like my transition back to stock to be a bit of an easy one. I may just do my Cat-back, Cobb Access Port when it comes out and then so cosmetic mods...I just fear the worst... (dunno)

Why mod the car if you're afraid to break it? Seriously, these cars are quick from the factory, you don't have to run out and swap out every part you can un-bolt just for the sake of it. Look into cosmetics and things that make the car more comfortable or cool looking if you must make your car different, but if your worried about breaking it, I would leave it alone. Especially if you don't plan on tracking it often or ever.

excellent advice. Some of us are happy with em stock. They really did a nice job with this car, just the right amount of style without going over the top with rice :)

Yep. Ive had the MS3 for just over 2 weeks now. My friends made bets on how long I would have it before I started modding. They won.

CS inserts for now, Cobb SRI on the way.

Turbo xs 50/50 and cobb sri (came in and installed 2 days ago) for a bit of power and lots of nice sounds ;) Also going to do shifter bushings and cs inserts. Everything is easily undo-able for warranty issues.

Btw, they WILL be able to see that you flash the ecu if you use the accessport and they might void your warranty.....

Your warranty is highly dependent on how your dealer is, some are cool some aren't so cool.

Im waiting for 5 k miles service after Im getting mm,cobb ap and waiting for cobb catted downpipe (catted because i dont want the smell)and bigger tmic
IfIi broke something I will take time and return to stock

Yeah I hear what everyone is saying. I'm talking about baadd installs like the manifold adn stuff. I still want a bigger TMIC and a cat-back. I'll probaly need a bigger fuel pump to run it all as well i imgaine. I just get freaked readign all this stuff.

Dude you ran in the 13's with basically just a SRI? That is awsome! I'm hoping to get to the track in a week or so.

Many people have. I ran 14.0 completely stock. Check out the 1/4 mile thread, there is some impressive stuff posted.

Simple stuff.

Do the things you feel you can do yourself. MMs are a nice starting point. Stay away from things that would affect the engine dramatically. Cat back is safe but pricey for the performance gain. There are some areas that require a higher skill level. Such as manifold or downpipe, might need some help from a wideband to make some adjustments. Don't be freaked out, just cautious.Stew rat is wise.

Sometimes I wonder where the whole import scene is headed these days. I live in central florida and a day doesn't go by when they're not scraping some poor kid up in a reck from either racing someone else, or just driving WAY too fast for urban conditions. What made it hit home for me was witnessing a kid pass me on the left shoulder of I-4 on a blind curve and crater into the rear end of a stopped dump truck @ excess of 100 mph..... All I saw was a cloud of glass, broken metal and smoke when he hit. I have never seen such a violent crash as that one, just flat out brutal. Please, be safe out there. If not for you own safety, then mine. Thank You :)

so ur getting a cobb ap? Hope u dont mind waiting it was supposed to be out summer 07', year later and still not anywhere near release

Patience FTW!

I'm glad it's not out just yet as I don't have the $$ set aside for it at this time. However, it light my my wheel situation (+42 offset) I might be buying a set of wheels instead :(

So I'm still wondering why everyone feels the Cobb AP is going to be the end all be all of mods. I realize engine managment is good for most and vital for some of us others, but for the guys that aren't goin for huge gains realize that its not going to be the electronic sex it's pumped up to be. Now don't get me wrong, I want one just like the next guy, but I'm just trying to be realistic here, the stage 1 or 2 is only good for 20 or 30 horses I imagine, something that can be had with a good MBC and boost guage combination for cheep cheep. But once again if your worried about warranties, get a set of lightweight wheels and some mazdaspeed accessories and I bet you'll be more than satisfied, especially when you hear about poor suckers like me that are paying out of pocket for *gulp blown turbo seals and such.
