Performace gains

What do you think the power/performance gains would be on the following

AEM SRI
Intake and exhaust cams
racingmazda header and test pipe
full 2.5inch headerback exhaust w/ 1 high flow cat
lighter flywheel and an LSD

how much time would that cut off the 1/4 and how much power would it give aprox

I would tend to think, it would be about 25 hp....and in the quarter mile, u should be able to break into the 15's, esspeccially wit that LSD, and Flywheel...if you are doing those, I would think an aftermarket clutch would also be a good bet

A girl on the protegeclub board achieved 21whp with just the cams, a bosal header, and a replaced high flow muffler (the least restrictive part of the stock exhuast system)...With an intake and a full header back 2.5" exhuast (a perfect diameter for a NA FS) you could easily make 7-8 more whp...

Installshield 2,
can you give more information about the girl that got 21whp with just cams. What type of cams? Does she have dyno's? Whats her nick on protegeclub?

If I can get close to 160 whp out of my MP3 then I might consider going N/A. :D

Z me Pro,
If everything goes according to plan, I'll also go N/A and I'll be getting the same mods on your list. Hope everything goes well for you. :)

i heard 30+whp from custom ground cams(not jspec) and a good port and polish job. add flywheel, pulley,header/exhaust combo with 1 cat I would think 40-45whp, especially with maybe an ecu piggyback/replacement.

i would add pulleys to that list, but to answer your question i would say you would be at around 130whp or more...reason being, that LSD is gonna deliver more of your stock power to the wheels, so not only are you gonna gain hp from the stock setup but youre gonna gain more from the externals...

reffering to Torsen LSD's ("torque sensing", non- fluid type, and the MSP LSD is a conical ring type torsen LSD) you not so much free up lost power in the drivetrain but make the power get to both wheels...The advantage is both wheels get the torque rather than one...but technically the MSP LSD will eat up possibly up to 1 more hp to turn...the internals of a good Torsen LSD are meshed very tightly, and depending on how aggressive the torque biasing propeties can cause even more of a drivetrain loss...The MSP LSD is a fairly mild diff, so loosing power in it will not be an issue at all, but the power gain comes from both of the drive wheels recieving the torque...The difference of actual drivetrain loss would be compensated for if you use a good synthetic gear oil such as Redline's MT-90, meaning if you change to that oil after the installation of the LSD you have the same amount of drivetrain loss as when you started...IT is definately a worth while mod...

sorry not trying to be to technical, just trying to clear it up a little...

damn you need to make a ******* FAQ or something...i think all 14 of your posts have been very intelligent sounding...of course with my knowledge you could be full of s*** and i wouldnt know :) but it sure sounds like you know!

ooh, so with that being said, i should get what for my mp3?
header, cams, flywheel, pulleys, hi flow cat?

what would just a header give me? razor, u had a header put in, where'd u get it and how much $?

ha ha just kidding...

i havent dynoed my header (350, racingmazda group buy if you jump in you can get it for 340)...but it was a noticable gain in the 3-5k rpm range...butt dyno says maybe 7hp or more

Razor, your butt dyno seems to be pretty accurate (most dynos have seen with just a header gained around 10whp with the rev range you mentioned...The most restrictive part of any 2.0L protege (minus the MSP) is the stock downpipe...A ******* roach couldn't crawl through that thing, and they can worm through pretty much everything...If you are staying NA, legality issues aside, there is not a better place to start than with a decent header...

thanks...i just hope that i havent lost power too much in the low end, everyone says judging by the video i took i took too long to get to 60...i need a mod to help me gain power inthe low end...everything thus far seems to be in the higher areas

Off the line starts will benefit from a lightened flywheel...And if you feel you are struggling in 0-60's, an 8lb flywheel will be pretty good. www.rr-racing.com check that site out (you have probably seen it, I am still new here) there is a chart somewhere on there that shows an 8lb flywheel on ProbeGT is like removing 278lbs in first gear or something...BIG difference...and 150lbs in second or something...after that the benefit is less noticable...But once you learn to launch those tricky light flywheels you could shave good times off 1st and 2nd acceleration...

Also the point of that is becuase you wanted a mod for lowend, the throttle response change of a lightened flywheel is hard beat...No other single mod will give you as much lowend torque and throttle response (although the torque is only in the high ratio, short gears...the rest of the gears you don't notice it as much...but the throttle response is still there) for the money...You might want to look into it...

i have:
cai
rm header
cams
mp3 ecu
hks axle back
grounding kit

my personal best 1/4 time was 15.9
but i know with practice and good weather i can get mid 15's
i spun through 1st gear!!!!!

your hp with all those mods 135whp without tunning
with a piggie back 140-145 whp
running low 15's 1/4

i've got cams (jspec/mazdaspeed), aem intake, sr motorsports cat back w/ hks axel back, and awr header. and my car is still SLOW . it may have around 130whp but its still slower than most cars. i'm not saying don't put money into your engine. it is faster than stock.. but compared to most other cars its still slow. right now i am considering a haltech ecu since i just found a guy that will dyno tune it for me. but i won't be doing that unless i convince myself i'll be gaining around 20whp.

Get the Haltech and raise the compression...you could get 30whp on top of your listed mods if the dude is good at tuning (so about 160whp maximum, with a static compression ratio of near 11.0:1)...It won't feel slow after that I would imagine.Even with the stock j-spec Mazdaspeed HC pistons (10.5:1) you could gain 22-23whp...But you will not gain 20whp with just the haltech stand alone...
