Pedal and shift nob replacement questions

2003 P5 Black Mica
I just got my P5 about 1700KMs ago (yeah, Candian ay!). So far I have tinted the windows, installed a bug deflector (Mazda), installed remote car starter (it's cold up here in Canada ya know), and just this weekend removed my stock polished alloys and put on winter tires and steal wheels.

Anyway, I have two quetions for you P5'ers...

1. I had this nice crome (and heavy) shift nob in my old car and I like it a lot. I liked the extra weight when shifting gears. Anyway, does the stock leather shift nob just twist off? I don't want to try pulling/pushing/twisting anything unless I know i'm pulling/pushing/twisting in the right direction.

2. I would like to change my pedals. When you go to a car shop and purchase new pedals I assume you just get the pedal part and not the full arm. But when I looked at the pedals in the P5, there is no bold on the back of the pedal to remove just the face of the pedal. How do these things install? Do I need to purchase new racing pedals that come with the full arm?

Thanks!

Wow sounds like a pretty exteme build is that a custom bug sheild or just one of those that you can get at the parts store?
The shift knob you have to cut off with a plasma cutter or a grinding wheel and as for the pedals the polished ones add more hp than the stockers

Don't listen to that jackass.

The knob will just unscrew. The rubber part of the pedals should just pull off with a little elbow grease.

anyways, there are non-shitheads on the board...

the shifter twists off and there are two methods for pedals that I know of:
1. racing pedals with full arm
2. pedals that have a backing plate and screws tighten the two plates together around the existing pedals

as far as I know, those are your options.

No s***. We don't want people like you that start s*** for no reason on this forum. Pack up your s*** and get the **** out.

1. The shift knob just unscews. It has a regular RH thread. The shifter knob thread on the P5 and the sedan is M10 x 1.25. A replacement knob either must have this mating thread or must be mounted with set-screws.

2. What you are looking for are actually pedal covers. Some replacements clamp to your stock pedals and others mount with bolts which require drilling through your stock pedals.

Nice way to make someone feel welcome SloPro5. You dick. If I was treated that way when I first came to the board I would have never come back.

If I leave I can't read the posts of people asking me when I did my first oil change and how many miles are on my car? I will miss the whiny assholes tell me about the chips in their hoods from other cars. Those bastards. Or the mindless ***** that have to ask advice on what color they should paint their cars what color they should paint their interior. Get a ******* backbone and make a decision for yourself. You make me sick. This Whole sport has gone to s*** and everything is just "a copy of a copy of a copy." The whole thing is a big comercial dick waving contest for the auto makers and the aftermarket companies. If you think they care if your car goes fast or even runs think again. The only thing that they want to go fast is you bankroll. Keep paying these ***** to look like everyone else just so some jerk-off can run a stop sign and total your car and the insurance company can give you a third of what you have invested, or so you can go to the dealership when your TPS is broke and tell you they won't fix it because you "modified" the vehicle. And when you do you can come to this board and tell everyone all about it. But I won't be here to read it. This is my last post so don't bother racking your brain for a witty reply because I will not read it anyway. Slopro5: Signing off.

Damn... Well... Welcome to the site; And the shift knob in chrome that you're referring to is probably the 'counterweight' shift knob, by GReddy. I ordered mine, and it'll be here thursday; I wanted the extra weight to counteract the loss of the weight and leverage by installing the short shifter. The old unscrews, and the new screws on just as easily.

Pedals come in the clamp down type, or the drilling type; The ones that require drilling are a little safer, IMO, but I havn't changed mine; The ones on there have enough traction and size for me.

Again, welcome to the boards, and hope this helped. =) Oh, here's a site for the shift knob, too:

lol wow, i guess you just can't get away from people like SloPro5. Sounds like he's been either taking too much of his medication of too little.

Anyway, thanks to all who responded. I'm glad to see that there are some normal people around.

Oh well, what do you suggest I do with the pedals? Do the "bold on" type stay in place or should I go for the "drill a hole" or full arm type? I'm going to go see what the car shops carry and probably give the "bold on" type a try. That way I don't have to mess up the floor matt with metal shavings.. lol...

Anyway, again, thanks to all who took the time to reply, not only to me, but to the dick head who obviously has issues in life!

Oh, and yeah, SloPro5.... we know you'll be back to read what others say about you.... it's just part of your nature. PRICK!
