So me and my buddy levi (thejeans) thought that it would be pretty cool to redo the tan pillars and headliner in black, so it would match the bottom half of the car.
First thing to do is to go out and get the paint.
I used fabric & vinyl dye for the headliner and visors.
I used Krylon fusion for the pillars and accessories.
I also picked up some of this stuff to clean the pillars from grease and dirt. Not necessary but i knew i didnt have any rubbing alcohol at my apt.
Tools Needed:
Philips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
15/16 socket
Now that you have everything you need its time to start taking off the pillars.
I started in the rear.
Fold down the rear seat and take of the rear deck lid, there a couple of those pop tab things holding down the rear deck, once you get those off then the rear lid just pops off. I left it in the car and worked around it.
After you get the deck off then you can just pop off the two panels in the rear.
Then i did the middle pillars, first you pop off the covers that cover up the bolt for the seatbelts.
Then take a 15/16 socket and take off the bolt that is shown in the above photo, after you do that the pillar will pop off.
then finally you will take off the front pillars, nothing special here they just pop right off.
Next, take off the visors, each one is held up by 3 screws.
Then after that take off the o s*** handles and take the dome light out, all are held on by screws and the dome light has a plug that you have to disconnect after that there is one of those pop tabs u will see when you remove the dome light.
At this point all the pillars are removed and the only thing still holding the headliner in are 3 more of those pop tabs above the rear seats.
When you get those out carefully take the headliner out of the passenger side front door.
This clip plugs into the dome light
Now everything is out and ready for paint.
So up clean up all the pillars and start spraying them with the krylon, we did 2-3 coats and it was good.
MAKE SURE YOU PAINT THE POP TABS THAT WHERE USED ABOVE THE REAR SEAT TO HOLD UP THE HEADLINER
After that we did the dome light, the easiest way to do this to take off the clear cover and tape off the bulbs, and then just painted it so you get the buttons and the ring thats around the clear cover.
After that we did the visors, we did the visors in the dye, set them down and paint, but if u can hang them that will make it easier to paint too.
This is one coat so after a the next coat the warning sticker is not really noticeable, u will see when u get to the picks of it all done.
Last up is the headliner, when you do this make sure you do nice even coats all over the whole thing so u dont get dark lines and darker and lighter areas, u want it look even all over.
that was after 2 cans
that is pic of the final coat getting sprayed on.
After all the stuff is painted its now time to put everything back in, just do the same as u did to take the stuff out but in reverse. The only thing different will be the installing of the rear and middle pillars. we had to pop off the lower panels to get them on down in for good fitment and so we didnt take the chance of scraping the paint up, u dont need to take them all the way off just a lil to give you some room.
Here are some pics of it all done
Well ur done good job.
