ok guys i am gonna try paintin my msp rims and i have a few questions.

1. should i do anything to the rims b4 i paint them? Besides clean them real good.
2. i am gonna try and leave the outermost ring not painted, plannin on doin this with some tape or something, after i primer and paint should i clearcoat the whole rim so there will not be an edge of paint on the face and if so what kind of clearcoat should i use?

I think that is all my questions, but any suggestions would be great. i am also plannin on not painting the lugs or the mazda center cap. gonna take that off while i am paintin.

last ?????

how do any of you think this would look on a blue msp with tinted tailights and sidemarker lights and limo tint?
i really dig the whole black n blue look

Honestly, I think it would like a blue car that had it's hubcaps stolen. However, I think a dark gold would look really good. Kinda STi-ish.

i would think it would help to sand/scuff the wheels prior to painting them.
Good luck and post pics of your results.

sand down the rim first. i used 400 grit and followed the directions. multiple thin coats...blah blah blah. take your time.

I HATE GOLD RIMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol
but seriously i do. i think i am also gonna try and tape off the racing hart logo so it stay silver as well, but i am thinkin it is gonn a be a biotch to get the tape outta those

also anyone know whether i would need to clearcoat and what kind to use if i do

just make sure you sand them good, appy lots of thin even coats, and make sure you put just as many clear coats a base, that way they will stand up to rock chipes and cleaners better.

There's a guy on here who painted the rims black, then painted the letters like yellow or red using a very fine paint brush. It looked pretty good.

if you are good with tape, you can put a pice over the word racing hart and use a razor to cut out the letters, then spray with silver, then but all your clear on the whole wheel.

yeah but i am thinkin it might be less hassle to jusst repaint the racing hart logo whatever color after i paint em black.........
if anyone has any pics of the stock wheels in black i would like to see

Or you could fill the words with rubber cement

Paint over everything

Peel off the rubber cement and the lettering will be the original color underneath

that's where i was goin. that or something like sticky tack - that blue stuff that the teachers always used in elementary school (at least where i was).

it will stay pliable after you paint and it's much easier to work w/ then tape.

myself and another guy are getting together and having this guy powdercoat our rims, he has a yellow speed and i have silver. post some pics of yours when done, if you can i would have the tires removed and really pay attention to what you are doing and take your time.

Before/after pics please!

Id suggest going a little darker gunmetal, or black. :)

Good luck!
mine are going to be hyperblack, leaving the lip the way it is and the center cap w/ Mazda symbol. painting lugs w/ caliper paint (black) and my calipers will be black as soon as I get some decent time and weather. my car will have only silver and black colors on it. thats just the way it turns me on!

hell yea definately along with everyone else here - post pics (b4 and after) cant wait to see em!
