Painting my ride son!

Keep in mind that this is a 17 y/o with no experience. No painter that I know was producing show quality work on their first attempt. But that said I still give him credit for trying and with more practice and better paint he will get better.

Off topic but that 46 stude was shot with enamel, which most certainly could have been cleared but it did not need it. Its a single stage shot with no clear.

it doesnt matter if hes 17, s*** im 17 and come spring time im going to repaint my car, im taking the engine out, taking the roof rack off, taking off the hatch, spoiler, gas tank cover, tail lights, headlights

im taking everything off for a complete color change, my car is midnight blue right now, and im painting it morracan red from an Acura TL type s
i have a job and im not getting cheap paint, but im not getting the highest stuff out there either, its going to cost 630 bucks for everything
ill post some pics in a new thread when the time comes, look for it

hey guys, i dont know if your trying to hate, or critiq it or whatever, ill just take it as constructive critisism. Looking back, and forward too, there are a lot of things i wished i had done differently, and that i plan on doing differently or changing. i kinda jumped on this way to fast, without doing much research. keep in mind, i dont anticipate this to be a show quality car, or at least not any time soon. i will hopefully fix it and make it look better than it does now, which i honestly dont think looks that bad. does anyone know if maybe i can put on a couple coats of a finer grade paint, on top of this one after sanding? or would it be better to just sand it all off, primer it, and try to actually do it right? also, i was thinking of just sanding and using black spray paint on the jambs, would that work at all? open to any suggestions, and thanks a lot for your help so far.

I think I like the grill with the shiny color better..I guess it's just a preference thing. The emblem should really stand out...hmm, you should do like a metallic onyx finish it would look sweet. ^_^

i thik i see some dark spots in there. any final pix? u shud of just painted thebumper silver to match. at least u still gawt turbo

IMO, not that bad for a first timer.

I'm 17 as well and almost nothing on my car has been done right the first time as it is a cause and effect then re-try type of deal.

I like the flat black but you will have to take the proper pre-cautions so that you won't be painting your car over again every year or so.

Not bad I know I dont have the guts to paint a car myself so much respect .Get clear on there....

there is a couple options you can do:

single stage paint (which is clear and basecoat mixed together, so you spray it on and your done.)

if you wanna reapply the paint, scuff it down with a scuff pad or 800grit. you will need to do this so that the paint will have a surface to stick to since it is fully dry. then respray the paint waiting about 5min between coats or until the paint looks flat again. then about 15-20min you should be able to clear using the same techniques. you kinda do need to clear it after base because you will be driving it and then if the paint fully cures then its going to be hard for the clear to adhear to it.
