Paint question re sealer

Hello, recent (ie Saturday) new owner of a CX-5, just wondering about two of the dealer option coatings. Normally we know to avoid those as cash grabs. Any thoughts, though, about the value of soundproofing/undercoating the car and sealing the paint?

You don't need all that. Do your own detailing and / or coatings rather than filling the dealers pockets.

depends on the sealant... many of them are just crap... but there are some serious sealants out there. I don't expect your dealer to use those though... they require real skills to apply.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. For those of you who have owned the CX-5 for a while now, does the paint need a sealant? What about undercoating? Here on Canada's West coast, rust isn't really the issue that it can be elsewhere where snow and salt are more prevalent. However, I'm wondering about the value of soundproofing. I've noticed that the doors aren't especially soundproof; music is quite loud outside the vehicle, much more so than with our older Golf.

Having a sealant is nice for protection... There's all kind of sealants. If you want to get it done professionally, try looking for someone that uses Opti Coat. If you plan on detailing the car and sealing the paint yourself, look at Blackfire Crystal Seal, Chemical Guys Jet Seal, and other products. Sealant is usually applied 6 months to a year, depending on the type of sealant. The sooner you have a sealant on the paint, the better for protection against environmental stuff, such as road grime, bird poop, saps, etc., just less chance of burning the paint and maybe easier to clean.

So, is there any consensus regarding additional soundproofing? I've noticed a good tutorial on using sound-deadening liner in the doors, trunk and under the carpet with respect to the audio system. I'm interested in this and think it might be more effective than any undercoating. Thoughts?
