Lower roofline makes the P5 look a little more sporty. I think overall though they both look good. I really like the Matrix Blue color. I wish our P5's had that color. If I think the P5 is roomy I can't imagine how I would feel in a Matrix.

I test drove the XRS Matrix with the 6-speed manual and let me say it don't have much pull to it, also the 6-speed gearbox is mounted at a wired location like the Si and it sucks at shifting, I really don't like it. I've driven the Celica 6-speed and it shift way better than the Matrix....

Also the interior looks very American to me, and very un-Toyota like, the radio, intrument cluster, door, etc.

I choose my P5 for the following: Looks really cool, handles really good, kicks Matrix's butt (well the regular ones anyway) and it's cheaper.

One of my friend bought the auto version of XRS later and he raced my P5 once..... what a joke....

But I do have to say I won't stand a chance with 6-speed XRS they are little better in hp...

I think the Matrix is not a bad looking car ( it has some nice lines but it really is rather minivan ish). But I am a loyal Mazda owner). The price is totally outragous. If I was going to spend 25K it would be for Mazda 6. Toyota is notorious for over pricing their cars. !!!

The Matrix looks too much like a squished minivan to me and it's got pink on the tailights,which is a little girly for me .I'm glad I got the P5!

Ok....I was really shocked at all the hate towards the Matrix! (blah) Before i got my "Matrix XRS" i was looking into getting a P5 but at the time the XRS came out it had alot more power and RPM's! 9,000redline! And options because i have a 6 disk CD changer and a stock DVD Voice Navigation.. If you hate the XRS's engine then your crazy..just look at the Lotus Elise..hm??? And to compare the Matrix to a mini-van...ok so where's the sliding side doors?? I can live with sport wagon..the P5 can be considered a sport wagon but nothing really sporty about it..the egine isnt sporty (yupnope) ..the body is alittle bit..but everything about the XRS's body says sport! the only way to get "sport" out of the P5 is MazdaSpeed..other than that the car isnt too sporty! And i really use to want one really bad until i saw the XRS and felt the power! Oh and no Vibe GT comes AWD only comes FWD. Doesnt the P5 run a 0-60 in like 10 or 9 seconds and 1/4 in like 19 or 18? real sporty!! My XRS isnt stock but i run 14's but when it was, i was doing 15's..i bet this though..put any P5 on the side of me and i bet i'd get more looks (chair) ...the Matrix is an EscapePod..lol like some lady told me one day "It looks like a space shuttle" (boom08) Oh...and i paid 20K for it brand new!

Heard it was some trash talkin on the matrix on this site...so i wanted to see what was said and i pretty much laughed through it but i was shocked at how many others were talkin trash too..lol didnt they stop makin the P5 and the replacement is the Mazda3?? the Mazda3 is a nice lookin car i admit..but i love the High RPM rush of my XRS after 6,000rpms all the way to 9,000rpms! (fuel cutoff is around 8,300rpms) i just never come below 6,200rpms when shifting! Isnt that where your car runs out of steam?? @6,400rpms? WOW...must be "really nice" (crazy)

Reasons I bought P5 instead of Matrix:

1) Price - Toyota wanted 18 grand, I got my P5 for 14,700

2) Manual tranny - Couldnt find a Matrix anywhere that had a manual transmission

3) Options - I got just what I wanted on the P5. Toyota didnt want to give me one without a load of useless s*** installed on it.

Looks - well, now that I own a P5 I think it looks better. But I think the Matrix looks ok, is a little tall tho.

OH...and my toyota matrix will last longer (miles) than the P5 (laugh). The P5 is a good looking car but i dont think it looks better than a matrix..maybe the base matrix the comes without the factory body kit...and who'eva said that the engine is weak is crazy..a base matrix is 130HP and 125TQ..what numbers is a P5 stock?? very simular! now compare that P5 to the XRS model 180HP and 130TQ with high revs! I cant talk junk too much because everybody has their own taste..and i dont have a drag car with my XRS but its quicker than you guys think! I've beatin up on stock Audi TT's (with my mods of course) but a modded N/A P5 couldnt do the same!

I drove an XRS... The "lift" as they call it was more a novelty than anything else.

I mean at first it was cool to go kinda slow from 1500rpm-6200rpm then get this kick in the pants till 8200rpm redline(not 9000)
Then I was like...this totally sucks. I mean who wants a car that you have to get to 6200rpm to have any useable power. It got kind of annoying after 15 minutes of playing with it...Not to mention that shifter did NOT wanna go into second at all...

What drugs are you taking for saying nice! I wont even look at a car if it doesnt have 4 wheel disc all around and the only one to offer it is the XRS on the Matrix. And like someone else siad, it's ridiculous to have to rev soo much for power.
