P5 to MSP conversion..need help

Ok guys, here's the deal. I traded in my bad MSP (mines a lemon, not yours) for a SUPER P5. I'm very impressed with this car. What I would like to do is find every FACTORY performance part / accessory that they make for these cars.. NAME BRAND ONLY. So far I have the Mazdaspeed muffler, but that isn't enough. I'm going to list parts I'm looking for and if someone can help me with the locations and part numbers I'd appreciate it.

Mazdaspeed Sport Exhaust - Done
Mazdaspeed Intake Camshaft -
Mazdaspeed Exhaust Camshaft -
MAzdaspeed shortthrow shifter -
Mazdaspeed floor mats -
Mazdaspeed gauge overlay -
Mazdaspeed exhaust header -
Mazdaspeed intake (do they make these?) -
Mazdaspeed struts
Mazdaspeed springs (must have struts at same time)
Mazdaspeed exhaust mid-section -
Mazdaspeed pedals (not pedal covers) -
Mazdaspeed heavy duty clutch (from 03MSP)
Mazdaspeed lightweight flywheel (I think they make this)
Mazdaspeed / J-spec Intake manifold -

Any other ideas you guys have? I've ordered the mazdaspeed protege wheels from the dealer for $417/per WITHOUT tires!! I know the turbo is out of the question, but this will be more of a cruiser with some performance potential. What do you guys think?Am I missing something??

They got 5k on them.....I don't know on the price though. I see them go for about 425+ shipping......but im not sure.

Thanks, I'll keep my ears open when you're ready. I know I can get all of the springs right now for $100shipped, so the struts cost about $325 for used pieces?

try www.madzastuff.com its some Mazdaspeed Authorized dealer in TX going crazy on prices... you should be able to get any and all Mazdaspeed parts for the P5 from him...

in addition, www.corksport.com claims to have the J-spec intake manifold, cams and a couple of other things under the Protege/3 part of their site...

oh yeah, and good luck with the conversion, if you do it I think it'd be pretty sick.

Great sites!! Thanks for the heads up! DAMN! Their header is $750 and will probably cause me to lose the warranty unless the dealership goes soft on me. Maybe if I can get the parts from the dealer they won't say anything about warranty.

mazdapseed makes a drop in filter for the p5.

no intakes for it by mazdaspeed.

mazdaspeed of japan also offers more stuff.

oh yeah! somebody on here (sorry I forgot the name) is selling off a ton of Protege parts, including the J-spec intake manifold... I think his car is listed as an MP3 but the intake is the same. I am looking to do a full FS-ZE conversion in about a year and he offered the intake manifold closer to $450 and its unused...

yeah if you can find someone who knows japanese to check out Mazdaspeed of Japan you could really turn this project into a beast...

edit: you should try and talk to a dealer and get them to "sponsor" your conversion (i.e. they would look past mods as long as they're OEM) and you would just let them throw a sticker on the two windows by your trunk...

A slow beast! I'm having to do it all one part at a time unless someone buys my honda. If I can sell my civic I'd have enough to do it all at once. It would be great to watch it transform in a week! However, the wheels alone are going to kill me unless someone is willing to sell me a set pretty cheap. I've seen a few people selling them so far.

the intake manifold is going to be a lot of work...keep in mind it comes from a right side drive car...

ok...You're saying the intake manifold will be backwards when I go to put it on? hmm, I've done something similar before on a hyundai manifold. We cut the other end of the main plenum off and mounted the TB on that side, but I'm worried about the VICS system. I thought a few people on here had done this before? If so, what did they do??

whether it comes from rHD or LHD should it matter for the intake manifold as it is direct bolt on?

I know there is another part that comes with the Jspec mani that needs to be hooked up also but for actual fitment it should just swap out. no?
i could be real wrong.

still curious about this. I hadn't heard of fitment being a problem. What is the other peice you say is needed? I'm also curious as to how exactly the J-spec mani makes additional power. Even the P5's have a similar intake manifold with the dual runner design. I remember reading something about resonance chambers, but I'm green to the subject. Anyone enlighten me??

sadly I don't know enough about the specifics but I guess I'll have to do some reading/searching tonite. (I'll make sure to mark links to post). I wouldn't think that the part would be problem for fitment but I can't say for sure.

as a bonus, you could try to convert the P5 to a rd... now that's a project. I think someone on the boards was seriously contemplating/attempting this...

I've made a Geo metro RWD before. It was pretty fun. Not up to my normal caliber of work standards, but it was functional. You'd really be surprised how little work it was. Once the motormounts were made and everything was matched up it was a cinch. My buddy had a arc welder and I had a keg. We spent all weekend working on that car only to have it fall apart doing a hideous burnout.

the Mazdaspeed flywheel is a waste of money. Trust me, I have it and it does absolutely nothing. I am switching to a Fidanza soon. As for the cluthc, you are better off going with an ACT or Centerforce clutch as I think on the MSP clutch only the pressure plate is different.

The Mazdaspeed springs are not coiled to match the P5. Tried them - didn't work. Go with the tokico blue struts (the ones from the MP3) and with Racing Beat springs. You will save alot on the springs that way as well.

Mazda does not sell the short shifter - the part number includes the entire shift linkage from the MSP at an outrageous price :(

If you get the cams, get the tripoint adjustable cam gears or you could very well install them and LOSE power. recently dynoed by a user here on the forum.

not trying to rain on your "Mazdaspeed-only" idea, only because I wanted to do the same thing and ran into the aforementioned problems.
