P5 sun roof and alarm aux channels.

OK guys please help me out with this.
I have the Autopage RS-850LCD and currently have three channels of it 4/5/6 empty. I have been thinking to wire my sun roof to my alarm. So basically i want to use channel 4 to open the roof and channel 5 to close the roof.

Anybody has a wiring diagram for 02 P5 sun roof?

Can anybody confirm the way our sunroof motor works?

I know that when the sun roof reaches to the maximum open position the motor will stop - i do not hear a motor whining sound.
Reason why i ask this is that i need to know whether or not i need window modules for this mod.

See those three available channels that i have can be programed to do: momentary, latched, latched ignition reset, pulse, and timer 0.8second to 2 minutes.

I am thinking of setting it to timer say 5 or 10 seconds.
I need to know first that our sun roof motor will stop itself when it detects that it is already in full close or open otherwise i will burn the motor.

Any ideas/thought appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is a pdf file of the shop manual in regards to the sunroof, includes wiring diagram.

perhaps this will help some.

Most likely it can be done since the motor just needs to have voltage and ground applied to it in opposite dirrections to move it but your real problem will lie in the tilt function. Since the same switch operates both slide and tilt just running a timed output to it will cause the sunroof to close then tilt up or tilt down and open. You will need to figure out what the limit triggers are and use them to shut the outputs form the alarm down. Honestly I think it would just be easier to get a dedicated sunroof module interface and hook it to one of the outputs from you alarm.

Thanks for your reply Gregg.
Actually i am just going to hook up the open and close functions to the alarm aux channels, i do not use tilting that much.
I try to stay away from using modules for the roof because of under-dash space consideration. My under dash is crowded with stuff for alarm, PA, and transistor module for the horn and 4 window module.

What worries me still is that is it OK for roof motor to be fed voltage 2 to 3 seconds after it gets to full close or open position.

Thanks.

From the looks of the scematic it looks like the tilt/close and open functions are all controled prior to the motor wires so that if you feed power to the motor after it closes it will probably continue on and tilit up. That is why you need to find the limit switch triggers adn use them to disconnect power to the relay's you use for open and close. All in all you are probably going to have to use 4-5 relays. At thispoint you will be taking up almost as much space as a sunroof module. If you are looking for some spare space there is a nice area up behind the intrument cluster. This is where I put my alarm module.

old thread resurrection I know, but I have done this, I may soon be digging back into it to add tilt control as well, If anyone wants to see it, I can document the process while I'm at it.

First off you'll need to re-wire your sunroof for always on (there's a how-to courtesy of zapwizard) From there, I basically just Tee'd into the leads coming from my switches and going to the sunroof. Used a single relay for open and a single for close. Show the switch wire a ground signal, and viola, you've got sunroof movement. Hooked the relays into my alarm's aux3 and aux4 channels, and set the output for 5sec on each. Oh, and if I add tilt, I'll simply use my trunk release output for open. My close already works for both so if it's tilted up, or opened it will close either way.
