P5 Stock Wheel Weight

:
02 P5 Red
Anybody know what the stock wheels on an '02 P5 weigh? I have the upgraded ones that look like the chrome ones.. just not chrome. Make sense ..? haha

Wow...that's not bad. The lightest 17's I found on TireRack were 17 lbs. I'm assuming 17" tires would weigh less, right? Otherwise it wouldn't make a lot of sense to go with anything bigger.

generally, 17" rims weigh more. there's just more material, so of course it's going to weigh more. it's also usually an inch wider as well. our stocks are only 6". most aftermarket rims are 7" across. some are 7.5" across.

if you want light rims, there are a few 17" rims that weigh less than 16 pounds for under $200. but the quality ones like volk, OZ, BBS, 5zigen, etc. that weigh less than 17 pounds (some as light as 13 pounds) will cost you upwards of $400 per rim.

then you go into fitment problems. the protege5 especially, has a very weird fitment requirement. look in the tires/wheels section for a sticky by rishie. he lays it all out. basically, we need a very high (+) offset. for 7" wide tires, we need a +45. for 7.5" tires, we need a +48mm offset. but read up on the fitment recipe. it's good stuff.

centerline makes some that weigh 11.5 pds but i sell them for about 350 dollars and i barely make anything at all on them.. just an expensive wheel

Yeah 11.5lbs for a 17in wheel is friggin amazing. I wish I wasn't so damn broke. (notcool)

kyredp5 and kymp5.... you guys confuse me every time you post. your names are so close. and your cars are both red. damn you guys. i thought i was reading another schizo thread.

KYMP5 , what kinda wheels are those on your ride?

I just went for looks when I bought my rims, cuz they are damn heavy for 17" but I couldn't pass up $140 a wheel. Enkei 5+ in anthracite. I'll post pics, at least they look good.

they are elite salinas. havent been made for 6 years. they are a chrome 6 spoke with c/f look centercaps. look realy good with the dg front lip and would look good with other c/f stuff. i might sell them, i have some 18"s on the way and they should be here fri or mon

were just some good ol boys, never meanin no harm

I'm trying to waqlk the fine line too, between looks and weight. I'm not concerned about how much they weigh because I don't plan to autoX my P5 or anything, but putting more weight at the end of your suspension is never a postitive thing as far as handling in concerned.

I'd be worried about those silly light rims as far as durability is concerned. One decent Buffalo pothole and bye bye rims!!!

I bought some Team Dynamics Pro Racer 1's from Rishie. They weigh accrding to SCC 15.8 lbs for 17". When I weighted one it came to 15.5.

I have 17" Centerline RPMs they are about 13lbs! Oh and as far as durability goes they are forged which means alot stronger than other rims out there. I had 17" Motegis on my Talon and lived in Buffalo....they bent like coat hangers over small bumps and were like 23 lbs.

so did you think they were worth the price.... what did you pay if you dont mind telling me.

Makin their waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...the only way they know how..BAHAHA

Anyway, SCC had an article in their newest issue about the General Lee...kinda funny

there are 3 things people usually look for when buying a wheel

Cheap, Light, and well made.

You can most likely find something that has 2 of the 3 qualities (i.e. cheap/light, light/wellmade, etc...) but never all 3. Question is what you are willing to sacrafice...money, weight, or build

I paid $300 per wheel without tire, well worth it in my opinion lighter wheels help handling greatly and acceleration can improve.
